The Science Centre welcomes 900,000 visitors each year, and offers interactive experiences and insights into science and technology that help visitors of all ages understand and contribute to the world around us.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage and administer around 75 Windows servers and provide senior expertise on day to day operation of these servers including monitoring their performance , patch management, security management and upgrades, for AD Server, File Server, Exchange server, Application servers, Web servers, Ticketing servers and all other OSC infrastructure and application servers.

  • Support and lead infrastructure I&IT projects from inception to closeout by overseeing, coordinating, and supporting the service management function and developing appropriate technical, systems and procedural documentation.

  • Develop and execute best practices and ensure alignment with corporate I&IT and other service providers.

  • Manage VMWare farm and monitor the VMs, resources, connected storages, network connections and all dependent services.

  • Manage the physical DELL servers and their support contracts.

  • Manage and administer MS 365 services including: user and license management, storage management, One Drive and SharePoint Online administration, Exchange Administration, Security and compliance, Cyber Security, and permissions management.

  • Manage OSC'c backup solution.

  • Plan and lead initiatives ranging from large organization-wide projects to smaller program-specific business solutions.

Must haves:

  • +10 years in a Systems Administrator role.

  • Virtualization including VMWare administration/upgrade/storage management.

  • Windows servers administration including administration of AD/Exchange and all related services, File servers, patch management and GPO, DNS, DHCP servers.

  • Knowledge of Backup systems, Administration of Commvault for on premise and online backups

  • Knowledge of MS 365 technology, administration of users, AD connect, admin portal, Azure management, Role administration, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, MS Teams, One Drive management, Cloud storage/licensing management, Intune administration, Compliance and security administration, Data classification and Data Loss prevention.

  • Knowledge of group leadership and project management techniques to lead teams of internal staff and/or external consultants; develop project plans and schedules, terms of reference, and resources required.

Nice to haves:

  • Public sector experience would be nice to have.

Criteria

Technical Knowledge and IT Management Skills (60%)

  • You have technical knowledge and practical experience with infrastructure, technical architectures, standards, security requirements, information & privacy protection standards, networks, operational environments and other I&IT technologies and industry trends to support project deliverables.

  • You can lead client engagement sessions to gather, document and validate client requirements (business and functional) as part of the solution management for clients.

  • You can exercise service risk management by providing recommendations based on an evaluation of risk and an understanding of business implications of risks.

  • You can manage all aspects of Servers/ Storages , mainly DELL servers and SAN storages, ideally have the related certificates

  • You have knowledge of Windows server administrations and Patch management including AD Server and related services, Exchange Server, File Server and permission management and other Windows server management

  • You have knowledge of VMWare administration and updates , ideally have the related certificates and are familiar with VXRAIL and vSphere management.

  • You have the ability to manage MS 365, MS Cloud, and Azure environment

  • You have extensive knowledge of backup system for on premise and Cloud environments specially with Commvault.

  • You have Cyber Security, network administration and firewall management skills.

Research, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills – (20%)

  • Demonstrate research, analytical and reasoning skills, attention to detail and sound judgment to identify and coordinate/manage and provide insight into problems and incidents.

  • Identify optimal I&IT approaches and solutions to meet client needs and program requirements, and provide technical requirements for planning documents and submissions.

  • Identify I&IT technical, operational or other issues, conduct analyses, and determine most appropriate course of action to resolve them.

  • Demonstrate experience identifying, monitoring and managing risks and issues through to resolution or mitigation.

Project Management Skills (15%)

  • Knowledge of project planning methodologies and project management skills to lead/conduct projects and major assignments to support the Ontario Science Centre's new strategic plan.

  • Team leadership skills to coordinate development of technical project plans, control project processes and provide technical guidance, set priorities, and assign activities to project teams.

  • Knowledge of risk assessment methods and techniques to evaluate options, select and support best solutions.

  • Ability to identify the most appropriate resources for projects and ongoing work.

Interpersonal, Communication and Leadership Skills: (5%)

  • Interpersonal and relationship management skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships and liaise with clients, management and collaborate with other technical teams to achieve goals.

  • Written and oral communication skills to develop and present technical/business documentation, project reports, status reports, business cases, recommendations and presentations to Director and client management.

  • Ability to lead technical discussions and facilitate technical conversations with non-technical audience and business users.

  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills to resolve problems, and to design and deliver presentations, proposals and business cases.

  • Leadership and team building skills to engage the project team, ensure collaboration, and focus on achieving project deliverables.

  • Demonstrate consultation, negotiation and mediation skills to communicate project deliverables, resolve conflicts, and develop and sustain effective working relationships crossing divisional or departmental boundaries and barriers.

Notes

This role will require contractors to come onsite for minimum 3 days a week.

The role will require on-call availability for evenings and weekends, as the Ontario Science Centre is open 364 days per year. This work may require the ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 25 kg and the dexterity and skill to work with delicate electronic components. Be part of on call team on a rotational shift on the weekends.

This is a three-month engagement with the possibility of extension.
