Position Summary:

The Senior Estimator is responsible for the accurate, timely preparation of full-cost commercial interiors estimates ranging from service level contracts to $50,000,000+ projects. Other duties will be assigned as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare conceptual estimates based on preliminary design briefs.
  • Prepare highly detailed elemental construction estimates based on progress construction documents (i.e. 30%, 60%, 90% IFT Document Progression)
  • Present conceptual estimates (in person &/or virtually) at various stages of project development.
  • Provide constructability reviews at various stages of project development.
  • Provide value engineering (VE) opportunities to align project schedule/budget with client expectations.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings for information gathering purposes.
  • Provide market feedback (internally and externally) with regards to material availability and cost trends
  • Attend tender site reviews and facilitate sub-trade site reviews for constructability reporting.
  • Prepare and/or coordinate the tendered cost estimates for design-build or construction management work.
  • Prepare and present tendered sub-trade work summaries with project stakeholders.
  • Prepare and maintain a list of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Study and analyze proposals received.
  • Recommend/reject proposals and negotiate contracts.
  • Evaluate and recommend allowances for indirect costs, escalation, and contingency.
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from subcontractors through direct contact.
  • Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost.
  • Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation.
  • Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required.
  • Perform additional assignments per manager's direction.
  • Read and interpret building specifications, blueprints and as-builds.
  • Build/maintain relationships internally and externally (clients & sub trades)

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in construction cost estimation.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in construction/engineering degree, or an appropriate field.
  • PQS designation is an asset.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario driver's license.
  • Must possess a mode of transportation (for site meetings)
  • Strong oral and written skills for information exchange
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong Mathematical and analytical skills
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Experience with PlanSwift is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with a minimal supervision.
