Job Summary:

As part of CED's Marketing and Communications team, The Director, Marketing will be responsible for leading the marketing team and has primary responsibility for overseeing the promoting of Calgary as the location of choice for business, investment and talent, in addition to promoting CED as the lead economic development agency.

This is a 14-Month Full-Time Contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate and consult with the other business units within the organization to understand, and develop effective marketing and activation programs in support of their business objectives and annual business plans.
  • Lead the organization's annual paid campaign plans including overseeing the development of creative and media buys and managing the associated budgets.
  • Oversee the optimization of CED's web properties and social media presence, including leading the team that executes daily communications on CED's social channels for optimal engagement.
  • Oversee Brand initiatives and provide leadership and direction on Brand Guidelines, ensuring corporate compliance with brand graphic and standards.
  • Provide leadership and direction on content and programming for signature events, BD activations and email campaigns and sponsorships.
  • Manage relationships with key outside partners and suppliers including creative and digital agencies, media partners, Team Calgary partners and sponsors.
  • Represents Calgary Economic Development on community boards and committees as required.
  • Be prepared to act as a spokesperson for Calgary Economic Development on specific media and social media campaigns, and at events.
  • Communicates with team members regularly to assess workload and determines priorities for the team; amending project work on a continual basis and directing workflows..
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, assists in the recruitment, selection and hiring of talents; and other related issues.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Director and VP, ensure budget and resources are in place for upcoming workload

You are a strategic thinker with expertise in Marketing, Communications and Media Relations. You are able to multitask, prioritize and deliver timely results. You are effective at working independently and as a member of a team with an ability to collaborate and build consensus across the business

You have superior writing and communications skills, a good understanding of the economy and political environment. You exercise sound judgement in your ability to handle matters of a confidential nature.

You have a passion for our city and are excited at the prospect of working on projects that build on the energy of our community.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a Management role.
  • Expert level knowledge of marketing, advertising, brand, web and content development, social media, stakeholder relations and event management.
  • Experience working with business stakeholders, sponsors, agencies, and vendors.
  • Experience writing for a variety of documents such as advertising, social media content, briefing documents, presentations and speeches.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the local and international market / ecosystem and ability to build relationships with key international stakeholders (government/agency/associations).
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to multi-task several projects at once.

Key Competencies:

  • Experience in fostering collaboration between organizations and multiple groups.
  • Understanding of local business, government, culture, trends and regulatory environment.
  • Visionary leader with the ability to set strategic goals for the team.
  • Proven experience in content creation and brand management in an online environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; detail oriented and structured.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience working with politically sensitive and confidential information.
