Summary

Thompson House has openings for the positions of Part-time and Casual Environmental Services. Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Services, this position performs a variety of housekeeping, laundry, cleaning, light repairs, painting, and other related duties while ensuring, at all times, resident care and safety. This position must be able to perform duties involved in all the various department roles.

This position is governed by the SEIU collective agreement.

The successful candidate for this position must have the following qualifications:

  • 2 - 3 years' experience in cleaning and housekeeping / Laundry
  • Ability to read, write communicate, and understand instructions in English
  • Ability to perform repetitive lifting of 30-50 lbs.
  • Ability to use all heavy duty floor cleaning equipment
  • Ability to prioritize work related duties
  • Ability to work independently and in a close team
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Successfully complete Vulnerable Sector Screening

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives assignments, assembles required materials and supplies, loads service cart and transports to work area.
  • Using specified cleaning/disinfecting/sanitizing agents, and follow specific procedures, work patterns and routines, performs such tasks as Vacuuming and shampooing carpets, sweeping, dry/wet mopping, scrubbing, and sanitizing/ disinfecting, wax floor care. Spot cleaning walls, windows and doors between washing. Dusting and sanitizing/disinfecting furniture, shelves, woodwork, etc. Emptying wastebasket, ash trays, and rearranging furniture. Daily cleaning and disinfecting of all bathroom floors, fixtures, and walls and replenishing supplies. Deep cleaning as per the deep cleaning schedule. Applies best practices in infection prevention and control in all duties on a consistent basis.
  • Ensures privacy of residents during performance of duties.
  • Prepares room for new occupant following prescribed procedures.
  • Notifies supervisor when supplies are low or equipment is malfunctioning.

Wage: As per the collective agreement

Working Conditions: Constant standing, walking along with lifting, reaching, squatting, pushing, pulling and twisting. Careful concentration is required while using chemicals. Exposure to hazards from wet or soiled floors and exposure to biochemical agents. Uses large pieces of housekeeping equipment.

Hours of Work: Able to work varied hours and days of the week to meet requirements of the position; must have availability to replace absences, call-ins, vacation relief, etc. Includes day shifts, evening shifts, and weekend shifts.
