This posting is for a Senior Wildlife Discipline Lead who will be an integral part of the growing AJM team. The following characteristics appeal to the ideal candidate:

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Full-scale project management including budgeting, scheduling, accurate invoicing, field execution, issue management and final deliverables;
  • Lead and mentor Intermediate and Junior staff to develop their technical, non-technical and business knowledge;
  • Although predominantly office-based, the ability to conduct wildlife assessments in a safe, technically defensible, and efficient manner when necessary;
  • Analyze field data to develop management and mitigation recommendations;
  • Write clearly and succinctly to convey environmental considerations and results to clients;
  • Develop regulatory applications and liaise between regulators and clients when necessary;
  • Actively build the AJM business with existing clients through both high-quality work and strong, trusting relationships;
  • Lead business development efforts through formal and informal avenues; and
  • Work independently, often outside of office hours, to meet challenging deadlines and client requests.

Specific skills and requirements we are looking for include:

  • Minimum of B.Sc. in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline;
  • Registered (or ability to register) as a Professional Biologist in Alberta and/or BC;
  • Minimum of ten years of related experience;
  • A willingness to go the extra mile;
  • A self-starter who thrives in a demanding environment working as part of a team;
  • Ability to work independently with great communication skills;
  • A cultural ambassador who can model AJM's core values in all aspects of the role;
  • Ability to learn new technology (and have fun while doing so!);
  • Expert field identification and assessment skills, and a desire to continue to learn;
  • A desire to get hands dirty in the field on occasion if necessary;
  • Ability to prioritize competing initiatives and deal with ambiguity;
  • A track record of fostering a strong health and safety culture; and
  • Self-motivated, organized and entrepreneurial.
