OVERVIEW
Vertex is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent Intermediate Hydrogeologist to join our team in
Sherwood Park, or Calgary Alberta. The successful candidate will have experience with hydrogeological assessment (physical
and contaminant), groundwater monitoring, geological and hydrogeological mapping, monitoring well and source well
completions, aquifer testing/characterization, and associated reporting to meet regulatory commitments and/or client
deliverables.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Hydrogeology or related physical science field of study
• Licensed as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist in the Province of Alberta (or equivalent)
• +5 years project experience in hydrogeology, direct experience in Alberta is considered as asset
• Inherent knowledge regarding processes and components of hydrogeology
• Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, mentorship and manage small teams under senior leadership
• Working knowledge – understand, remain current, and ability to interpret environmental regulations, guidelines,
requirements, and standards as required by Vertex business and client base
• Ability to multitask several projects, including budgeting and scheduling of projects
• Ability to develop reports following Vertex standards and regulatory requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide technical expertise and guidance on various environmental assessment projects as required
• Develop and manage project-specific budgets in alignment with the project's unique scope and strategy
• Provide input to the improvement and enhancement of internal procedures related to hydrogeology
• Supervise, lead, and train personnel on groundwater monitoring technique, single well response tests, and
aquifer pumping tests
• Supervise, lead, and train personnel on borehole drilling and lithology logging and installation of environmental
monitoring wells and water source wells
• Hydrogeological data analysis and interpretation in support of technical report preparation
• Lead and support preparation of proposals, scope development, and cost estimates
INTERMEDIATE HYDROGEOLOGIST
• Facilitate projects, including mobilization, demobilization, staffing requirements, and scheduling of equipment,
materials and facilities to ensure work is executed efficiently and effectively
• Advise clients regarding strategy and approach for project work, delivery of technical documents, and
communication of progress
• Work with the internal groundwater team to share resources and grow technical expertise within the team
• Share knowledge and expertise regardless of region, service line or sector responsibility
• Willingness to travel and participate in field work, primarily within western Canada and the ability to adapt to
unpredictable and/or inclement field conditions and changing schedules
• Complete hydrogeological technical reports for senior review and sign off
• Other related duties
LOCATION
This position will be based out of our Sherwood Park office, located at 2055 Premier Way, or our Calgary office located at
4240 Blackfoot Trail SE and a hybrid work schedule is available.
