Job Summary:

A Service Technician specializing in the commissioning and start-up of robotics equipment plays a vital role in ensuring that robotic systems are installed, configured, and operational according to the requirements of a specific project or production line.


Job Responsibilities:

Your supervisor may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this job description. This job's key responsibilities include:

  • Installation Planning: works with engineering teams to plan the installation of robotic equipment, considering factors such as layout, power requirements, accessibility, and safety protocols.
  • Equipment Inspection: Before commissioning begins, the technician inspects all robotics equipment to ensure that it has been delivered in good condition and meets the required specifications.
  • Assembly and Integration: They assemble and integrate robotic systems with other machinery, conveyor systems, sensors, and control interfaces as part of the overall production line.
  • Programming: Using PLC Programming, the technician programs the robotic equipment to perform the desired tasks efficiently and accurately. This may involve writing code, configuring software interfaces, and fine-tuning parameters to optimize performance.
  • Calibration and Testing: Once the robots are programmed, the technician calibrates them to ensure precise movement and alignment. They conduct thorough testing to verify that the equipment operates as intended and meets quality standards.
  • Troubleshooting: During the commissioning process, the technician troubleshoots any issues that arise, such as mechanical failures, electrical problems, or programming errors. They diagnose root causes and implement solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Documentation: Throughout the commissioning and start-up process, maintains detailed documentation of all activities, including installation procedures, programming changes, test results, and troubleshooting steps. This documentation is essential for future reference and quality assurance.
  • Technical Skills: Act as a subject matter expert for technical use and support on Allen Bradley, ABB, Siemens, and Omron.
  • Robotics Skills: Ability to work independently on Fanuc, Yaskawa and ABB Programmer

Job Qualifications:

  • Education: College diploma or bachelor's degree in mechatronics, robotics, industrial automation, electrical engineering technology, or a related field.
  • Hands-on Experience: 3-5 years' experience working with robotic systems, either through internships, co-op programs, or entry-level positions, is highly valuable. This experience could be gained in manufacturing, automation, maintenance, or related fields.
  • Technical Background: Experience with troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electromechanical systems is essential. This could include experience with electrical systems, mechanical components, and control systems.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with automotive manufacturing processes and quality standards is beneficial. Experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly in the automotive industry, provides valuable context for the specific challenges and requirements of the role.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading schematics, understanding technical documentation, and using diagnostic tools is essential. You should be comfortable working with various types of sensors, actuators, controllers, and robotic manipulators.
  • Programming Skills: Basic programming knowledge is often required, particularly in languages commonly used in robotics such as Python, C/C++, or ladder logic. Understanding robot programming languages like Robotic Operating System (ROS) or specific manufacturer-specific languages is advantageous.
