Aurora Hydrogen is developing a novel hydrogen production technology with the potential to dramatically change the way hydrogen is used in everyday life. The technology uses efficient microwave energy to produce low-cost hydrogen and solid carbon from natural gas without using water or generating any CO2. Hydrogen production using Aurora's technology has the potential to reduce global CO2 emissions by over 900 million tonnes per year, and we're looking for passionate people to join us on this journey.

Aurora Hydrogen is looking for an exceptional individual to join us as an RF Microwave Heating Specialist out of the Fort Saskatchewan, AB office.

The RF Microwave Heating Specialist will work closely with the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and a team of engineers and scientists in the development and demonstration of Aurora's technology for hydrogen production.

The Role:

  • Design, fabricate and test microwave and RF heating systems at the lab, pilot and commercial scale
  • Perform experiments, bench tests, calculations, etc.
  • Research challenging designs using various sources of technical information
  • Analyze RF and/or microwave system performance based on operational requirements
  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain RF and/or microwave components and sub-systems
  • Develop and validate RF and microwave heating models using standard industry software
  • Produce technical documentation (part lists, schematics, etc.) and technical reports
  • Analyze test results and prepare project reports, make design recommendations
  • Document the design processes including objectives, issues and outcomes
  • Other duties as required

Who You Are:

  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, specializing in RF and microwave heating design
  • 10+ years of experience in RF/microwave heating engineering, mechanical design and product development of standard and custom equipment, including single and multi-mode applicators, waveguide components, instrumentation and process controls for consumer, commercial, industrial, and scientific applications
  • Practical experience in maintenance and operation of high power (100 kW – 1 MW) RF and microwave systems at a range of frequencies: commissioning, troubleshooting, control and interlocks
  • Experience with high temperature/pressure applications is an asset
  • Computer literacy, MS Office (Excel, Word & Outlook)
  • Practical knowledge of RF/Microwave CAD tools such as Keysight ADS and Ansys HFSS is essential
  • Familiarity with Keysight SystemVue and Mentor Graphics is an asset
  • Excited to work on a small fast-paced start-up team with a drive to succeed and grow with the company
  • Ability to focus in an environment of high uncertainty to achieve efficient outcomes in a timely way
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments concurrently
  • Solid understanding of design of experiments and statistical analysis of data
  • Able to articulate technical concepts and other project information in a clear, concise way
  • Possess a positive attitude, be highly self-motivated, energetic, passionate and reliable
  • Outstanding oral and written communications
