YOUR ROLE AT MIRATERRA

We are seeking an Engineering Technician to support our engineering team, the machine shop, and be a critical part of our growth. You will work with a small multi-disciplinary team of engineers and a machinist where we promote open communication, and be a critical part of projects such as assembling hardware for prototyping and production. You will play a key role in our ability to invent breakthrough technology, at a fast pace, by communicating clearly with the team around the requirements and details of the assembly tasks.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, the Engineering Technician is responsible for supporting the Mechatronics team to develop and build new hardware and supporting the machinist with ongoing jobs and shop management.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL

  • Support the mechatronics team, a multi-disciplinary engineering team, in our prototyping, production and development efforts.
  • Assemble mechanical, electro-mechanical, and opto-mechanical assemblies such as prototype and production sensors, fixtures and test benches to support the ongoing development.
  • Provide the mechatronics teams with valuable design feedback for assembly and maintenance of components.
  • Interpret mechanical assembly drawings per ASME Y14.5-2018
  • Interpret wire harness drawings for manufacturing
  • Support in-house prototyping and production capabilities by operating manual machining equipment including lathes, brake presses, mills and hand tools
  • Fabricate parts and structures out of metals or plastics
  • Perform QC of finished parts using precision measuring instruments to ensure accuracy of manufactured parts
  • Inspect and test electronic equipment and assemblies
  • Compile test reports
  • Maintain safe operations by keeping work area clean and organized and by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on machines to ensure optimal performance
  • Responsible for the organization and maintenance of inventory parts
  • Other relevant duties as required.

WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Highly motivated, self-driven and ability to work well independently and with supervision
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal in English and works well in a team environment
  • Diploma in Mechanical Technology or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in a rapid prototyping machine shop work environment
  • Experience assembling complex systems from drawings
  • Experience working with Engineers on the assembly of prototypes and production products
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change
  • Hands-on work and troubleshooting attitude
  • Capacity to communicate and interact professionally with a multi-functional team environment of engineers and machinist

WE VALUE, BUT DON'T REQUIRE

  • Experience machining plastics, aluminum, stainless steel, steel.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication
  • Knowledge of mechanical electrical and optical systems and parts to aid with troubleshooting tasks
  • Familiar with:
    • Prusa slicer
    • Octoprint
    • Wazer
  • Complete job set-up and operation of:
    • Tormach 3 Axis CNC mill
    • Wazer Waterjet
    • 3D printers
  • Installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment
    • Knowledge of instrumentation (DMM, oscilloscope, etc…)
    • Hand soldering
    • PCB reflow

LOCATION

  • Onsite, 5 days a week in our shop in Vancouver, BC
