Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Engineering & Operations, the Director, Engineering will oversee all technical
engineering deliverables for the project and will provide ongoing engineering expertise and leadership through the
design, construction, and commissioning phases of the Project. Specifically, this position will be responsible for
managing the engineering services provided by the various engineering and EPCM contractors and the supporting
consultants engaged by the company for the project, as well as the directly managing the internal engineering team.Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
  • Ensure excellence across all engineering disciplines during design, detailed engineering, procurement, construction,
    and commissioning phases of the project.
  • Oversee and coordinate all the design and engineering requirements for the Project, including all discipline
    engineering and managing the interface between the Area Managers and the engineering contractors.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams to perform a variety of engineering studies, trade-off studies, and cost analyses.
  • Oversee the engineering services provided by the EPCM contractor, including in-depth review and approval of
    engineering deliverables on behalf of the company, where required.
  • Engage and supervise external technical consultants required to support engineering including the development of
    work scopes, coordination of their work, tracking progress, and ensuring that objectives are met.
  • Ensure that engineering is effectively integrated across the various engineering providers.
  • Interface and coordinate with the the company and external environmental and licensing teams to ensure engineering
    details are in compliance with requirements, and that information is shared and communicated effectively.
  • Incorporate risk management practices into engineering workflows, including coordinating to ensure that HAZOPs
    and operations and maintenance reviews into the design.
  • Establish requirements for the handover of technical deliverables to the company, in collaboration with the operations
    team.
  • Coordinate the the company engineering and technical teams to ensure the thorough and timely review and approval for
    engineering work packages and deliverables.
  • Provide timely review and response to RFI's received by the company from the EPCM contractors and other providers.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance of the Services and the Works.
  • Contribute to the development of technical contract documents for FEED, Detailed Engineering, and vendor/sub-
    consultant engineering requirements.
  • Support the technical evaluation and selection of Trade Contractors and Goods providers during the FEED and
    Detailed Engineering phases.
  • Create a collaborative and engaged team through positive mentoring/coaching and other innovative strategies.
Education & Experience:
  • University degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred), or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer Designation in Canada (Saskatchewan preferred).
  • Minimum of 15 years technical, engineering leadership and project management experience in the mining industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in design and development of large EPCM projects in the resource sector.
  • Proven leadership and personnel management skills.
  • Ability to mentor senior level engineers and designers and provide technical leadership.
  • Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability, and cost of materials
  • Advanced knowledge of equipment through all stages of a project from conceptual phase to design development,
    construction, and commissioning.
  • Effort-hour estimating and staff forecasting.
  • Project set-up, developing control-level schedules, progress reporting and project close-out.
  • Practical field experience.
  • Remote, greenfield project experience is considered an asset.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and able to effectively demonstrate safety leadership.
