Position Summary

The Senior Superintendent role combines the duties of a senior superintendent on site while utilizing years of team leadership and experience to influence the next generation of mass timber leaders. This role oversees all phases of Mass Timber Construction, Framing, and Hybrid construction projects from initial planning and constructability through to completion and hand-over on a project. The Sr. Superintendent will demonstrate proficiency and understanding of the management of site logistics and contract operations. They must be proficient with construction documents and drawings. They must have experience and proficiency in all divisions of work, project phases, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control. Strong technical and communication skills are critical to this role. The role will manage all site personnel including foreman, safety personnel, carpenters, labourers, and contracted resources, as required. They will help to implement company processes and protocols for constant improvement of company culture, productivity, and professionalism.

Professional Role Requirements

Providing expertise and support to the to the site teams on all assigned US mass timber projects, including:

  • Encourage SMT's working culture including work ethic, attendance, personal presentation, professionalism, continued education, and learning.
  • Inspire and motivate field teams and sub-contractors to perform at their best.
  • Facilitate and promote a safe and inclusive team environment.

Site Operation

The Senior Superintendent must be accountable for site operations including the following:

  • Allocate a team to the project in consultation with Seagate General Superintendent.
  • Allocate field staff (Foremen, carpenters, and labourers) as required to manage project workload and to maximize efficiency.
  • Training and mentoring new hires.
  • Provide continuous training, mentoring, and support to site foremen/superintendents in areas relating to site management, cost control methods, risk management, technical and building methodologies, scheduling, safety, and dispute resolution.
  • Promote, teach, and encourage all staff in the ‘Seagate Way' of doing things.
    • Actively seek out solutions, not issues.

    • Accountability – We are all responsible for the success or failure of our projects.
  • Regularly monitor site management, construction processes, potential efficiencies, and personnel performance.
  • Perform regular check ins with Client/GC to ensure work on site, documentation, safety, product, etc. are to expected levels.

Maintain open and ongoing communication with the Project Manager and other project team members, ensuring that they are all working on the ‘same page' for all levels of construction on site.

  • Participate in creation of initial schedules and/or review schedules prepared by Preconstruction providing specific input on sequence of installation.
  • Manage project schedules to ensure projects are being executed as planned. Work with the project team to mitigate schedule issues.
  • Manage Seagate's safety on the site in close association with Seagate's HSE Coordinator and HSE Manager, including:
    • Assist in establishing a culture of safety within Seagate Mass Timber Inc.
    • Assess common hazards and work with the team to ensure we are managing these hazards efficiently and effectively.
    • Work with the project team to generate PSSP's (Project Specific Safety Plans) – Early identification of hazards and planning for their management is critical.
    • Promote the safety program and monitor adherence to it on site.

Travel & Work in the US

  • Must be willing to travel for work and work for extended periods outside of BC.
  • Must have nothing on their permanent record that would prohibit them from Seagate obtaining a temporary work visa for the US.
  • Capable of successfully running projects independently and without direct management.
