Position Summary

Ganawa is a custom steel fabricator and full-service supplier for the bridge construction industry as well as a variety of other structural steel markets. We offer an extensive range of products and services, including the fabrication of bridge expansion joints and railing systems, and custom steel fabrication.

The MIG/Robotic Welding Lead Hand will be responsible for increasing production capacity through the programming of our automated welding robot, developing, and leading a team of Robotic Weld Operators, and working alongside those team members to meet customer expectations and timelines.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Layout, fit, and weld components.
  • Start-up, shutdown, and monitoring of robotic welder
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, weld symbols, work orders and other instructions to determine specific welding requirements.
  • Identify, setup and tune robotic MIG weld processes to match customer requirements (with the guidance from Mechatronic Technician)
  • Ensure that welded material meet specifications.
  • Monitor production processes and make necessary adjustments to ensure product quality and consistency.
  • Troubleshoot any issues that arise during the production process, such as equipment malfunctions or welding defects.
  • Ability to repair welds properly, with good quality when required
  • According to workloads, prepare and issue work schedules, deadlines, and duty assignments to direct reports and follow up to ensure tasks are being completed within the prescribed timeframe.
  • Manage output and troubleshoot robotic MIG welding equipment. Work with Mechatronics Technician to identify and resolve issues within the process. Ability to make minor program improvements a plus.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance of robotic welder and related equipment to ensure that it is functioning at optimal levels
  • Communicate job expectations to welders, ensure adherence to proper procedures, address employee relations issues, providing ongoing training, coaching and development
  • Monitor and maintain a safe work environment.

Skills/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Must have MIG Weld ticket and be a competent MIG welder
  • Must have strong fitting skills and experience
  • Certification in one or more robot programming courses would be an asset
  • 5+ years experience welding and fitting
  • ­2+ years hands-on experience with robotic welding equipment
  • Ability to perform scheduled and preventative maintenance on robotic welding systems
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in a fabrication environment
  • Troubleshooting aptitude, attention to detail, and safety consciousness is a must.
  • Strong people skills with the proven ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to consistently lift up to 50 lbs required
  • Reliable with commitment to regular attendance a must
  • Strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude
  • Adapt to changes quickly and seamlessly
  • Supervisor weld certificate, an asset but not mandatory
