Nature and Scope
The Instructional Designer plays a key role in supporting the transition of curriculum to a technology environment. Instructional Designers work with faculty to move or adapt their courses or part of their courses online. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.

General Accountability
The Instructional Designer will provide direction and support for an online education delivery transition and ensure the hybrid deliveries are rolled out with expertise to support SIIT learners and faculty. The Instructional Designer will adapt instructional materials to the online learning environment including structure of content, activities for learner engagement, and development of formative and summative assessments.

This position will assess and accommodate Indigenous learner needs and styles when creating the learning environment and content materials. The position will work closely with colleagues, supervisors, subject matter experts, educators, and other instructional designers to determine needs throughout the design process. The range of accountabilities for this role include, but are not limited to:

Instructional Design

  • Bring knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional strategies to the development process
  • Create and revise course content using best practices in online course design
  • Develop assessment and evaluation methods and criteria for measuring learner and program success in the online learning environment
  • Orient faculty to learning materials and serve as a resource to faculty and staff
  • Identify and develop online learning student and instructor resource materials

Research & Analysis

  • Analyze the needs of SIIT learners and propose multiple solutions and strategies for program delivery
  • Conduct research and consult with key collaborators, subject matter experts, and curriculum writers
  • Utilize strong instructional design methodology and performance improvement methods to analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate learning solutions and programs

Reporting & Compliance

  • Keep current in area of Instructional Design, including tools for use in online instruction
  • Collaborate to develop a workplan with respect to scope of online course adaptation projects, confirmation of roles and responsibilities, and schedules
  • Adhere to copyright laws and SIIT processes and procedures for consistent, efficient delivery with emphasis on continual improvement

Required Qualifications and Experience: A Bachelor's degree in Education, Education Technology, Instructional Design or Curriculum with demonstrated experience working with a learning management system. A minimum of five years of related experience is required. A combination of education and experience will be considered. Knowledge of First Nations culture and organizations would be an asset.
