Summary

Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Underwriter's main duties include risk analysis of files submitted by brokers, and is responsible for underwriting applications while ensuring that the quality of risks underwritten is adequate to achieve maximum profitability. They determine the terms and pricing of risks according to their level of delegated authority.


Main responsibilities

New business

  • Analyze, determine and propose conditions for setting up bonding capacity for contractors.
  • Discuss proposed terms and conditions with brokers and contractors.
  • Develop, analyze, underwrite and service new business in accordance with the underwriting guides of the various insurers with whom we have an agreement.
  • Analyze and approve bond applications received
  • Analyze and apply audits and recommendations received
  • Verify and control wording, calls for tenders and quotations related to applications received, when relevant
  • Propose restrictive clauses in bond wording if required

Renewals

  • Analyze, underwrite and proceed with renewals in accordance with the underwriting guide of the insurers with whom we have an agreement.
  • Identify, suggest and implement changes to file conditions if required
  • Collaborate with colleagues on current and future opportunities
  • Verify and control wording, tenders and quotations in connection with applications received, where relevant
  • Analyze and approve bond applications received
  • Verify and master wording, calls for tenders and quotations in connection with applications received, where relevant.
  • Work with underwriters to redefine file renewal conditions.

Development

  • Initiate and maintain a privileged relationship with brokers by offering them top-quality service.
  • Represent the company at industry events, as required
  • Develop business relationships with existing and new brokers through marketing visits.

Profile

  • 1 to 3 years' relevant experience in financial analysis
  • Experience in bonding or comparable field (Asset)
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration with finance or accounting option (an asset)
  • Analytical and decision-making skills supported by solid technical knowledge
  • Ability to synthesize information
  • Adaptability and flexibility in the face of change
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Sense of responsibility and priorities
