Mission

The Construction Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for providing leadership, technical support and advice on all aspects of H help assess the implementation of the H&S Program within the workplace, and as required, develop and/or provide related training.

Responsibilities

  • developing safety, security, health and environmental policies, standards and programs for employee and passenger activities
  • Ensures fulfillment of H&S requirements at construction site, following health, safety, and environmental (H&S) plan in compliance with Company standards, customer requirements and Government regulations
  • Prepares weekly and monthly statistics H&S reports
  • Provides assistance in the implementation and update of the health, safety, and environmental plan
  • Provides assistance in identification of risks and definition of control measures (through safe work procedure, Job Safety Analysis)
  • Carries out and records regular safety checks and safety inspections
  • Provides assistance in Tool-box talks
  • Coordinates safety committee
  • Records and investigates accidents and incidents; performs Root Cause Analysis on H&S issues
  • Coordinates health, safety, and environmental aspects of site activities
  • Provides introduction training and site-specific health, safety, and environmental training
  • Coordinates required safety training on site
  • Coordinates First Aid rescue, First Aid responders and Fire Protection programs
  • Proposes immediate correction of an H&S deficiency; checks if H&S corrections from deficiency are effective
  • Ensures OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and COR programs are maintained at site
  • Supports execution of internal audits in construction sites and facilities and coordinates external audits
  • Coordinates with Workers Compensation as required

Profile

  • Proven experience as safety manager
  • Must have a BSc/BA or Post-Secondary in Health and Safety
  • 10 years' experience with at least 5 years' of health and safety related experience on major construction projects in a lead role
  • Valid qualification in occupational health and safety
  • Must be knowledgeable of the following construction Health and Safety Officer: NCSO-IHSA; or Canadian Registered Professional (CRSP); or demonstrated equivalent
  • Must be knowledgeable of EHS Management Systems such as OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, COR certification programs
  • Must have a strong understanding of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation and implementation in a construction environment.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of Certificate of Recognition (COR) processes
  • Must be proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Must have strong organization and record keeping skills
  • Must have an uninhibited ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, push, pull, reach and grasp
  • Must have a Valid Class G Driver's License
  • Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
