Description

The Head of Mobile Engineering will lead the mobile engineering team to develop, execute, and maintain mobile applications that align with the company's strategic objectives. They will oversee the entire lifecycle of mobile software development, from concept to deployment and support, while fostering a culture of communication and high-quality output.

The mobile platform is one of our most important technologies, underpinning many of our existing contracts and nearly all of our future ones. This role will be central to our technical strategy and there will be many areas for the candidate to grow.

This position is a vital component of the business, and is responsible for:

  • Lead the mobile engineering team in the design, development, and maintenance of mobile applications.
  • Cultivate a team culture that encourages open communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications, focusing on delivering high-quality output.
  • Mentor and guide the team to solve complex technical problems and improve skills.
  • Stay up-to-date with new technology trends and evaluate their applicability to company goals.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and risk assessments.
  • Provide technical leadership and insight into mobile development best practices.
  • Drive R&D initiatives, comfortably managing and leading innovative projects from inception to completion.
  • Track and manage issues within the mobile engineering domain, ensuring timely resolution and communication.
  • Support the account management team with customer interactions, providing technical expertise and guidance.

Requirements

We know you will have a wide skill set, but to thrive in this role we think you will need:

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
    • Proven experience as a mobile engineer with a successful project management track record.
    • Experience with mobile development frameworks and technologies such as Swift, Kotlin, Flutter, React Native, Firebase, Crashlytics & NewRelic
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non technical audiences
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to improve team culture and communication.
    • Proven track record of managing R&D projects and focusing on high-quality deliverables.
    • Experience in issue tracking and resolution within a technical environment.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with customer-facing teams to support account management.
    • Understanding of how to monitor & automatically identify issues on mobile apps using services such as Firebase & Crashlytics
    • Familiarity with continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) practices.
    • Understanding of Agile methodologies and project management tools.
