As a leading edge IT consulting firm, Avocette Technologies is growing and has an exciting 12 month full time contract plus possible extension opportunity for a Senior Agile Coach to join our client in the greater Vancouver area remotely. We work with a wide range of clients including government and crown corporations, community services agencies, healthcare providers, and professional services organizations. Please note, both Avocette Technologies and our client will not cover relocation costs

Experience with various levels of Government (provincial and local), Crown Corporations and Healthcare would be considered highly desirable but not mandatory.


Specific Responsibilities and Deliverables:

  • Provides hands on Agile leadership across DevOps using specific experience and knowledge of a variety of Agile frameworks, such as Scrum, Kanban or Extreme Programing.
  • Provides coaching, teaching, mentoring, and facilitation of the adoption and implementation of Agile practices, and promotes the Agile mindset, values and principles across the multiple business area, working closely with DevOps teams, business stakeholders, release train engineers, and shared resources such as security, architecture, integration, infrastructure, UX and site reliability engineers.
  • Provides input and direction on the optimization of the flow of value from business to development.
  • Defines Agile standards and requirements, and provides guidance and assurances that all artifacts are being adhered to.
  • Promotes Agile benefits and outcomes to the DevOps teams and business stakeholders encouraging greater buy-in and organizational alignment in Agile adoption
  • Promotes Built-In-Quality practices as an investment for achieving agility through technical excellence and good design.
  • Provides leadership and support with a servant leadership mindset, placing the needs of others first and enabling them to perform their best.
  • Coaches, mentors and supports various roles within DevOps such as Product Managers and Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Development Team Members, Release Train Engineers and Shared Services Team Members, in order to achieve and adopt effective Agile practices and behaviours and provides ongoing input to the DevOps program on how to best track and manage their work portfolio.
  • Engages in the removal of impediments outside the direct control of release train engineers and scrum masters.
  • Monitors and provides reports and updates on Agile health in DevOps teams using relevant data to provide feedback to both the DevOps teams and leadership on strength areas as well as areas of opportunity.
  • Provides frequent feedback on performance and skills development and provides input to the performance review for technical and non-technical capabilities.
  • Continuously evaluates agile maturity levels across all the teams, and develops improvement plans.
  • Drives continuous improvement across product development including the areas of process, technology, and people.
  • Participates in selected teams and program ceremonies, including standups, product backlog grooming and planning sessions, demos, retrospectives and Program Increment events to enable and support adoption of best Agile practices.
  • Promotes a culture of continuous learning by actively participating in learning opportunities and activities such as Lunch & Learns, Knowledge Cafes, Lean Dojos, training courses, etc.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) majors, and 6 – 9 years (real time) direct hands on experience in the agile practice.
  • Of the 6 – 9 years, 4+ years as a Senior Scrum Master or Release Train Engineer serving 2 or more Agile Teams.
  • Of the 6 – 9 years, 4+ years of relevant experience with agile methodologies and DevOps environments.
  • Of the 6 – 9 years, 2+ years' experience developing/delivery in the cloud.
  • Of the 6 – 9 years, 4+ years of work experience in IT involving continuous process improvement, project management, business requirements and analysis, and/or technical proficiency
  • ICAgile Agile Certified Coach (ICP-ACC) or equivalent such as Certified Enterprise Coach (CEC) or ICAgile Certified Expert in Agile Coaching (ICE-AC).
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent such as CSPO, CSD, CSP, or PMI-ACP, SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), CDAP, CLP.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate, organize and prioritize work to meet both short and long term goals and outcomes for projects of varying complexity and size.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach others in roles of leadership, without formal authority, through servant leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and support multiple teams across different business areas and levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote the delivery of quality products across multiple agile teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to use tact, diplomacy, facilitation skills, and assertiveness when dealing with people of varying levels of expertise throughout the organization while maintaining confidentiality and achieving consensus.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and deliver complex information clearly and concisely to the intended audience both verbally and in writing; responding to unanticipated questions with thoughtful, clear answers.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changes and model positive behaviours even when faced with difficult circumstances and/or individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility, develop and maintain positive working relationships with peers, management and customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically think through complex problems, often under pressure, and make decisions that may impact multiple levels of the business, projects or programs.
