Regina Surgical Centre, a division of Clearpoint Health Network is recruiting for a Nurse Manager

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Regional Director, Prairies, the Nurse Manager is responsible for optimum patient care in the O.R., PARR, and Day Surgery area through supervision of nursing and ancillary personnel; liaison with medical staff and specific clinical responsibilities, while ensuring overall objectives of the Clinic are met. As the Nurse Manager, you are responsible for the clinical practice of all professional staff (RN's and LPN/RPN's), and ancillary support staff for the facility. The Nurse Manager will act in accordance with the ORNAC standards and scope of practice pertaining to the peri-operative patient as well as in accordance with facility policy and procedure. The Clinical Nurse Manager must demonstrate a professional and caring approach in dealing with clients, colleagues and supervisors and possess critical thinking and assessment skills. The Nurse Manager is accountable for a designated patient care area and is responsible for participating in strategic planning both for existing and new facilities.

The key areas in this role include but are not limited to

Administrative Management:

  • Develop and evaluate organizational objectives, policies, and standards of nursing practice. Ensures compliance with all regulatory as well as internal company policies and procedures
  • Manage clinic operations, quality improvement, and adherence to clinical standards. Operationally and fiscally manages the perioperative services of the department
  • Implement and maintain occupational health and safety programs. Ensures education of all staff with respect to safe working methods and procedures. Ensures accountability and correction regarding violation of safety standards or instruction.
  • Clinical resource for perioperative services team members using evidence-based knowledge and prevailing standards

Human Resources Management:

  • Recruit, onboard, periodically train, and manage staff, including performance evaluations and disciplinary actions. Develop and oversee training programs for Clinical and Non Clinal Staff.
  • Assists with the orientation and support of new team members ensuring on-going compliance within the perioperative team
  • Plan and manage staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage for patient care standards.

Financial Management:

  • Identify budgetary needs and make recommendations for operating and capital expenditures including operating budget, workload, staff resources, minor and capital equipment purchases.
  • Monitor and control expenditures and report significant variances to senior management.

Staffing and Development:

  • Monitor the scheduling of staff according to clinic needs and collaborate with other health team members in keeping with Worked Hours Per Patient target
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in professional societies

Other Duties Include:

  • Supervising staff on a daily basis and ensuring staffing coverage for surgical days.
  • Screening patients for surgery suitability
  • Managing narcotic control including record keeping, documentation and supply.
  • Responsible for total quality management including but not limited to periodic review and redesign of policies, audit of completed charts and physician orders for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensuring adherence to nursing standards, managing inventory, and coordinating emergency activities.
  • Conducts clinical equipment evaluation and preventative maintenance
  • Manages accreditation maintenance and monitoring
  • Protects patients and team members by adhering to infection control policies, medication administration, storage procedures and controlled substances regulations

Education Requirements/Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited/ recognised nursing program with active registration.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in OR and knowledge of PACU nursing
  • Minimum 2 years in a leadership role (e.g., Charge Nurse, Specialty Coordinator, Practice Lead)
  • BCLS/ACLS Certified and PALS, if applicable
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and empower staff to achieve organizational goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills,
  • Strong Analytical, organizational, planning, coaching, decision making and financial management skills.
  • Self-directed and highly motivated.
  • Ability to function effectively in dynamic situations
  • Ability to build strong physician relationships, collegiality and networking ability
  • Knowledge of the medical industry's legislation and guidelines
  • General computer proficiency, including the use of all Microsoft Suite applications
  • Excellent time and project management skills
