We are looking for a full-time contract Junior Accountant to join our team!

The Junior Accountant will be responsible for supporting the Finance Manager in executing the day-to-day finance operations of the organization. This will include management of Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR) and general accounting support as required.

Status: Full-time contract until March 31, 2025.

Base Salary: $38,419.50 - $49,032.62 annually (Candidate qualifications will be considered when determining the starting salary)

What you will do

  • Process and analyze expenses and payables and ensure approval of accounts payable follow company policies, contracts, and purchasing procedures either through online payment, Microsoft Great Plains and Concur solutions.
  • Vouch employee expense reports for payment. Verify supporting receipts and approvals, general ledger accounts and program codes.
  • Accurately vouch and process vendor invoices through Concur and integrate into the Accounts Payable system.
  • Run periodic cheque payment or EFT/Direct deposit. Maintain Cheque Issued Log to track cheques used, voided/or spoiled.
  • Invoice creation in Great Plains for Training and Literacy programs.
  • Liaison with CMHA Peel Dufferin Training and Literacy programs, ensuring invoices reflect services provided and agreed terms.
  • Manage / Accountable for accounts receivable and contact customers regarding payments with proper collections procedures.
  • Enforce all AP and AR related internal control of processes and procedures.
  • Assist with various accounting duties to help ensure month end closes are completed in a timely manner.
  • Provide support in the training of Concur expense and invoice management solution.

What you need to join our team

  • Post-secondary diploma in Business or Accounting.
  • At least 2 years of Accounts Payable and Accounting experience is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience of accounting software, preferably Great Plains.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a multi-task environment and to prioritize tasks in a manner that meets staff needs and program objectives.
  • Strong computer skills – MS Word, Internet, Outlook and especially Excel.
  • Some experience in Great Plains accounting software would be an asset.
  • Keen attention to detail, professionalism and confidentiality in Finance and Payroll matters at all times.
  • Experience in a non-profit organization is an asset.
