First Nations Technical Services Advisory Group Inc. (TSAG) is a not-for-profit provider of quality technical service and training for First Nations in Alberta. TSAG's purpose is to assist First Nations in gaining the tools and knowledge they need to achieve and maintain high standards in technology and services within the community. This is a permanent, full time position and will be located in Edmonton, Alberta.

Solid Waste Planning Coordinator

TSAG is seeking a highly motivated individual to take on the responsibility of a full-time Solid Waste Planning Coordinator in our Edmonton office. The position will report directly to the Director of Technical Services and will be responsible for assisting with delivery Solid Waste programming in the Alberta First Nations. The Solid Waste Planning Coordinator will actively contribute to TSAG's Solid Waste Team by assisting with the development and delivery of existing programming materials. This position will also work with First Nations communities and departments to ensure support is provided for existing programs already in place.

Duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Coordinate the delivery of a First Nations Integrated Solid Waste Management Planning Pilot
  • Coordinate meetings with participating members, facilitate discussions, take minutes for distribution, and work through the process to develop a community plan
  • Preparing technical reports, process documents, templates, presentations, and educational materials
  • Developing, revising, and improving a Solid Waste Management Plan toolkit to standardize process and reporting
  • Engage with First Nations, communicate, and support:
    • New plastic waste cart programs to the communities and membership
    • New waste transfer stations to the communities and membership
    • Participation in provincial recycling programs
    • Miscellaneous requests assisting the Nations with Solid Waste inquiries
    • Capital projects builds, planning the openings of new sites, coordinate training for new operators, etc.
  • Full-cycle event coordination of training courses, community planning working groups, and regional meetings
  • Liaising with recycling organizations, waste management commissions, municipalities, provincial governments, and federal governments
  • Writing and developing year-end program reporting
  • Reviewing and formatting technical documents and reports

Required Skills and Qualifications to Include:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication with diverse stakeholders including the ability to effectively chair meetings and facilitate discussions
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Positive attitude and a desire for continuous improvement for self and the program and organization overall
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy, reliability, and willingness to take initiative
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to multitask and effectively manage several projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) as well as internet research skills.
  • Ability to understand and document complex systems related to community planning and solid waste management
  • Strong technical report writing and experience in the development of process documents
  • Experience in the fields solid waste management, environmental economics, or community planning will be considered as an asset
  • Experience working with First Nations and Indigenous Peoples will be considered as an asset
