About the opportunity

The Energy Analyst & Assessor will work in our Community Power division and report to the Senior Community Operations Manager. Your primary responsibilities will involve the analysis of community energy data, performing home energy assessments, and developing demand side management strategies for remote communities. The Energy Analyst & Assessor will work closely with a Construction & Housing Specialist both in the field and in your remote office to refine and shape all recommendations to suit each community's unique needs, priorities, and budgets. In addition to identifying and recommending energy upgrades, you will also be required to analyze energy consumption data to identify trends and additional opportunities for optimization of energy use and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The successful candidate will have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills that shine through in both technical and non-technical report writing. You must be able to think critically and solve problems with minimal guidance, have a knack for technical systems, and be interested in learning new tools and software. To thrive in this role, you must be able to adapt easily to changing schedules and be comfortable working in demanding field conditions and managing your own time.

Travel is a requirement for this role; the successful applicant must have a flexible schedule which allows them to regularly be away from home for 5-7 days at a time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze datasets of community energy consumption to generate energy profiles and identify trends and forecasts.
  • Support with the constant improvement of our proprietary energy modelling and reporting software, Eethos.
  • Perform detailed home energy assessments in primarily remote communities with the goal of identifying opportunities for energy savings.
  • Assess and report on the condition of various housing components such as wood stoves and mechanical systems for the purpose of asset management and repair planning.
  • Provide customized in-home education to householders to help them conserve energy.
  • Generate and troubleshoot HOT2000 models of homes for the purpose of quantifying baseline energy use and the savings associated with recommended upgrades.
  • Develop practical recommendations for community housing staff to reduce energy use in homes and buildings across their community.
  • Write project reports to communicate recommendations in an approachable, action-oriented language.
  • Speak to assessment findings and recommendations with clients both in-person and virtually.
  • Travel approximately 25% of the time to remote and/or isolated communities for 5-7-days at a time.

Required skills and experience:

  • Designation as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Engineering Technologist, Applied Science Technologist (AScT) or EnerGuide Energy Advisor (EA) is a requirement for this role.
  • 1-3 years of formal experience working in energy analytics is required.
  • A strong understanding of fundamental building science principles is required.
  • Advanced skills in HOT2000, Microsoft Excel, and the willingness to adapt to new software is required.
  • Experience working with off-grid energy systems and renewables would be an asset.
  • Experience in working with Indigenous and/or remote communities would be an asset.
  • Must have a demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of diverse communities and organizations.
  • Must have their Class 5 driver's license.
