Job Overview

The Summer Legal Student must have a keen interest in financial services, commercial and corporate law. The Summer Legal Student will work directly with the General Counsel assisting primarily with legal research and contract review. Under the guidance of the Genral Counsel, the Summer Legal Student will have to opportunity to gain practical and valuable experience in the corporate and financial services industry.


Role

In the role, you will...

  • Conduct research on complex legal and business questions and provide detailed written recommendations
  • Review, analyze and summarize existing and new third party vendor legal contracts
  • Assist with corporate transactions including managing closing activities and preparation of closing documents
  • Assist with the introduction and monitoring of procurement protocols
  • Review company by-laws, policies and procedures to ensure conformity with best practice
  • Support procurement and facilities initiatives
  • Compile, proofread and revise drafts of legal documents and reports
  • Support in the drafting of legal agreements and contracts
  • Work with the Governance team to provide support as necessary
  • Perform other duties as required

Required Skills

Within your skills and qualifications, you will...

  • Be currently enrolled in a Candian Law School and be a 2L student
  • Be an organized multi-tasker that thrives in a fast pace, time-sensitive, high volume environment
  • Have a keen attention to detail in working with legal documents
  • Apply strong decision making skills with a degree of discretion
  • Possess superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Be proficient in MS Office suite
  • Have excellent time management skills
  • Inherently demonstrate a high level of integrity and be trustworthy
  • Enjoy working in both an independent and team collaborative environment
