What the position entails?

Accounting:

  • Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable processes including entering daily invoices/bills/journal entries/weekly check runs/monthly accruals and special projects for portfolio companies within Vard Marine group of companies.
  • Processing of employee and management of staff expense claims in accordance with regulations, policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Responsible for the processing and accounting of the corporate credit card transactions.
  • Daily review of bank transactions into the general ledger, across bank accounts and reconciliations kept up to date.
  • Entering, revising, sorting, calculating and creating tables for analysis, account reconciliations, year-end working papers, control accounts, etc.
  • Perform all related accounting functions required to maintain the general ledger in compliance with company policy and procedures.
  • Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal regulatory and company policies and procedures.
  • Back-up to the finance team member for preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and consolidations for group reporting, while ensuring that all reporting deadlines are met.
  • Work with the finance team on the formulation of accounting policies, procedures and controls.
  • Other related accounting and administrative duties as required or assigned by the Financial Controller.

Payroll:

  • Verification of staff timesheets on a weekly basis and preparation for semi-monthly payroll processing.
  • Process semi-monthly payroll for salaried and hourly employees using ADP Workforce Now.
  • Prepare ROE, WCB, EHT, RRSP payments and other payroll remittance and reporting within legislated timelines as required.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of payroll functions for audit purposes, in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the HR department and other departments to ensure pay and personnel records are accurate and up to date.
  • Take and handle all inquiries arising from questions about payroll

General:

  • Issue ad hoc, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and
    established best practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy legislation.
  • Assist in continuous improvement activities, from idea-generating to implementations.
  • Other financial duties as assigned.

What you will need to be successful?

  • Undergraduate Degree - Bachelor of Commerce or Accounting Major.
  • Between 3-6 Years' experience in finance and accounting.
  • Minimum 2 Years experience in payroll.
  • Experience in an engineering firm or professional services industry is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Federal, Provincial and local requirements regarding payroll is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel.
Competitive Salary Range: CA $32 - $35 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications, as outlined in the job description/posting.
