Rate of pay: $21.85* per hour (+16% in lieu of benefits) (*$22.94 effective July 1, 2024)

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Term: May 6, 2024 – August 16, 2024

Reports to: Executive Director

Our student life assistant develops resources and support services for newcomer students so that they can make the most of the CSU's services and community engagement activities. While the student life assistant receives direction and mentorship from the member services coordinator on a day-to-day basis and can expect to interact and engage with our student leadership, they ultimately share a reporting relationship with the executive director.

Duties

In particular, the student life assistant performs the following job duties:

Work (90%)

  • Develops and executes orientation programs to help newcomers acclimate to university life and Capilano Students' Union programs and resources.
  • Collaborate with all functional areas to ensure that newcomers are informed about essential services, academic resources, and campus facilities.
  • Develops and facilitates workshops and programming to promote cultural exchange, intercultural understanding, and networking opportunities among international and domestic students.
  • Actively encourages participation in Capilano Student's Union programs and services by promoting events, activities, and resources available to students through a combination of in-person and social media outreach.
  • Working closely with the communications team, develops informative materials and resources to support international students' involvement.

Other Duties (10%)

  • Works safely, in accordance with our health and safety program.
  • Protects the personal information of coworkers, students, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by resource staff or the executive director.

Qualifications

  • Six months or more experience working with community-building.
  • Knowledgeable about post-secondary campus life.
  • Personable, professional, and well-organized.
  • Ability to work effectively independently, or as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 as of the date of their appointment, and must have citizenship, permanent residence, or be under refugee protection — this means that, unfortunately, international students are not eligible to apply for this position.
