Job Summary: The goal of the Speech and Language Program is to resolve and/or measurably reduce the effects of individual communication disorders. The Speech/Language Pathologist will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive early management intervention. Responsibilities include specialized treatment where required, and provision of consultation and educational services to professions, agencies, and the general public. This position reports to the Director of Programs, Child Development Centre.

Some of the key duties and responsibilities include identification and assessment, treatment and intervention, consultation, case reporting and record keeping, community education and related activities, and departmental and professional responsibilities of an interdisciplinary team. Education, Training and Experience

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Must be registered with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC
  • Eligible for registration with "Speech-Language & Audiology Canada" (optional)
  • Knowledge of or interest in developing skills in Sensory Integration, feeding, augmentative and alternative forms of communication (i.e.: sign language, picture of symbolic communication, VOCD).
  • Previous experience or interest in working with a pediatric caseload.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate and interpret results from specialized diagnostic equipment.
  • Sound judgment in diagnosing and prescribing therapeutic treatments.
  • Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to provide a calm, healthy, positive role model to participants.
  • Ability to problem solve with participants, as well as determine their needs and wants.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations and to remain calm in difficult situations while ensuring everyone is treated with respect and dignity.
  • Ability to work as a productive and interactive team member.
  • Ability to recognize aspects of a participant's life that require support and assistance.
  • Basic computer skills preferably experience with Microsoft Office
