Huronia Transition Homes is a multi-site, multi-program organization operating throughout Simcoe County, providing shelter, support, education and advocacy to women and their children who have experienced abuse. We work to end all violence against all women. We are committed to providing equitable services based in intersectional feminism and harm reduction philosophies.

We are currently seeking a bilingual dynamic and energetic individual passionate about anti-violence to join our team as a Francophone Support Person. The position is based out of our La Maison Rosewood Shelter location in Midland. The Francophone Support Person will provide immediate and responsive support to women and children in shelter and will provide telephone support to women in the community who have experienced violence. The Support Person works rotating shifts of 12.5 hours, with both day and night shifts required.

What does success in this role look like?

  • Knowledge of intersectional feminism, anti-racism, anti-oppression, violence against women, and harm reduction
  • Knowledge of issues related to violence against women
  • Experience working with women of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, socio- economic and linguistic needs
  • Ability to provide immediate and responsive crisis counselling in person and by telephone to women experiencing abuse
  • Ability to provide information, support, practical assistance, safety planning, resources, referrals, and advocacy for women as needed
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and participate as a team member
  • Understanding of the unique barriers that francophone women face
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma (in a relevant discipline)
  • Advanced French language capacity
  • Passion to end all violence against all women.
