Please note: This role is full-time, hybrid position based in downtown Calgary, AB.

As a Senior Optical Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop and maintain roadmap and architecture standards for a highly automated and supportable optical transport infrastructure and services.
  • Develop standards and best practices to support Outside Plant and Network Engineering teams for non-transport links such as PON, Direct Ethernet Access, and any Internal Network-Networks links.
  • Work with Outside Plant and Network Engineering teams to ensure architecture alignment for Optical transport & backbone layers.
  • Develop and lead system lifecycle management and standards, including HW, SW, and golden configs of all Optical Network Elements in production.
  • Support Capacity Management
  • Be a stakeholder in Change Management: provide risk assessments, develop Method of Procedures (MOPs), Acceptance Test Plans (ATP), and either execute changes or support engineering and operations teams in changes related to the optical transport network.
  • Drive technical requirements for Operational Support Systems (OSS) and Business Support Systems (BSS) in relation to the optical transport network; work closely with the Systems team on the Architecture, implementation, and operations of said systems.
  • Work as part of team to evaluate and/or develop technologies and tools to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Low-Level Design (LLD) process
  • Work as part of team to evaluate and test new technologies/tools and monitor evolving technologies for possible introduction into the network
  • Manage Service lifecycle from inception through to implementation, service evaluation and retirement for the optical transport
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to define marketing, financial, and technical requirements during every phase of an optical service development lifecycle.
  • Support the Business Development team in response to RFP/RFI from a technology strategy perspective
  • Build and support optical lab efforts of Engineering and Operations
  • Act as a Tier 3 support and mentor for Engineering and Operations

On your resume, we ask that you demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Physics, Telecommunications, Engineering, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of network planning experience and a minimum 10 years of overall Engineering or Operations experience in an IP-based service provider environment
  • Strong knowledge of Optical technologies
  • Knowledge of technologies and protocols for PON, Ethernet, IP Core, Peering, Fixed Wireless access, and a working knowledge of optical transport (OTN, DWDM)
  • Experience in a DevOps environment
