Labourer / Swamper

Reporting to the Foreman or Project Supervisor, the Labourer or Swamper is responsible for general labour duties assisting Operators, Hydrovac, jetting crew, Install crew, and flagging in a service oriented environment.

Position Qualifications:

  • Great degree of manual dexterity
  • Prefer 2+ years of experience in construction or oil & gas industry
  • Class 5 Alberta driver's license and clean drivers abstract
  • Experience operating equipment an asset
  • Can communicate in English (speak, read, and write)
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines. Good organizational and time management skills, and the ability to manage multiple, and changing priorities. Detail oriented with an aptitude for metrics
  • Strong drive to get projects / work completed. High integrity, ability to maintain confidentiality is essential
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel domestically as required
  • Able to work out of town, and on weekends
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions and in awkward and tight spaces

Ticket Requirements

  • Standard First Aid, Ground Disturbance Level II, Generic WHMIS 2015, CSTS 09 or 2020

Reporting Relationship

The labourer reports directly to a Foreman or Project Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Load/unload and transport construction materials
  • Provide manual labour assistance on various tasks and assignments which may include but is not limited to; hand exposing existing buried lines, hand digging trenches, painting and marking up an area, laying cable
  • Assist heavy equipment operators, hydrovac operators, foremen and supervisors
  • Assist in initial setup and cleanup of sites
  • Assist in aligning conduit during installation
  • Operate ancillary equipment – ie: ditcher, skidsteer
  • Participate in daily hazard assessments, tailgate meetings and company safety meetings
  • Maintain a positive public image of the company with appropriate personal conduct and maintaining a clean and safe work environment
  • Operate company vehicles and equipment in a safe, professional and courteous manner
  • Operate basic hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, etc
  • Direct operators of construction equipment with alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery to conform to location needs
  • Assist with the jetting procedure
  • Other duties as assigned
