The Opportunity

We are seeking someone who wants to make a difference and has a passion for supporting young people who have experienced difficulties with coping, or who are working to manage mental health or substance use concerns. A good fit for our agency is a self-directed, engaging and empathetic person with lived or living experience with mental health and/or substance use challenges. We are looking for someone to provide clinical supervision to Foundry Langley drop-in counselling students, staff, and clinical consultation to partners to support the implementation of counselling at the Centre.

Foundry is removing barriers and increasing access to health and wellness services for young people aged 12–24 and their caregivers through a network of youth-friendly centers across British Columbia and online. By offering integrated mental health care, substance use services, primary and sexual health care, youth and family peer support and social services, Foundry makes it easier for young people to find support in their communities. Online resources and first-of-its-kind virtual care further broaden Foundry's reach.

The Counselling Supervisor works in collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator to ensure any needed follow-up and continuity of care required for clients and/or Foundry Langley staff and partners occurs. Provides direct supervision to student counsellors and ongoing support to clients and families accessing services. An ability to support gender and sexually diverse youth, Indigenous youth, and youth who have experienced substance abuse would be an asset. Experience supporting racialized, neurodiverse youth and young adults with physical disabilities as a peer would also be considered an asset. .

Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday - 11:30 AM-7:30 PM
Thursday - 10:30 AM-6:30 PM

SALARY RANGE: Blend of 16P/ 17P at $46.89 per hour

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provides clinical supervision to the centre's service providers, student counsellors, and clinical consultation to partners in the clinical care of young people and their families. Collaborates in problem solving clinical cases, supporting the use of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Emotion Focused Family Therapy, providing and/or recommending interventions, programs, resources and literature to promote continuity of care and effective treatment and resource utilization.
• Oversees daily workflow for drop-in counselling, including by tracking the number of participants who request counselling during that drop-in day, matching participants with drop-in counsellors, and tracking approximate times for session breaks and next available sessions. Provides clinical supervision/consultation for walk-in counselling, with an emphasis on evidence-informed and culturally responsive practice, discussing client care issues and developing linkages and partnerships with other facilities, agencies and support groups. Engages in the use of shared client documentation systems, including Toolbox, Teams and the Electronic Medical Record and ensures accountability and privacy. When appropriate, supports in or prepares progress notes, documenting significant events and unusual occurrences, noting referrals and communicating needed follow-up. Maintains documentation of supervision/consultation provided.
• Emphasizes the importance of providing integrated services for participants. Acts as a resource for mental health and substance use issues. Promotes collaboration between staff and families to highlight participant concerns such as access to primary care, education, employment, housing and income support. Uses methods such as involving participants in dialogue with staff and families; encouraging self-care; providing access to interventions; fostering a warm and non-judgmental environment; providing guidance, support and information on complex situations; and assisting with navigating issues such as informed consent, confidentiality and developing linkages and partnerships with other facilities, agencies and community resources to best meet participant needs.
• Available for assistance in crisis interventions, debriefing, and consultation, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures, including reviewing and signing off on incident reports.
• Reports any breach of confidentiality, health and safety concerns pertaining to participants, staff and volunteers while ensuring compliancy with agency policies and procedures.
• Provides direct service such as comprehensive clinical counselling and psychotherapy to participants utilizing a variety of counselling modalities. Maintains clinical records indicating the nature and duration of treatment.
• Provides high quality, inclusive, participant-centered and culturally competent services utilizing ethical practices that are responsive to the needs of presenting participants.
• Performs other duties as required/assigned including but not limited to supporting other Foundry area and staff.

Qualifications
1. Education and Knowledge
• Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work or a related field.


2. Training and Experience
• 3-5 years of related experience in clinical specialty area.
• Specialization in mental health and substance use treatment through basic training, continuing education or clinical experience.
• Direct service delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based services and related provincial and community support service systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of relevant formal counselling modalities, including CBT, DBT, MI, EFFT, SFBT, demonstrated knowledge of assessment tools and techniques, and ability to implement these strategies and modalities.
• Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Experience working directly with youth

3. Skills and Abilities
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport and maintain therapeutic relationships with young people and family members, including youth with complex needs.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the broad range of issues pertaining to trauma, mental health and substance use among adolescents, young adults, and their families.
• Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory and consultative processes and of clinical supervision models, with the ability to identify learning needs, teach, coach and provide clinical information and supervision.
• Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Acts, pertinent regulations, policy, procedures and other statutory and certification requirements (such as the Mental Health Act; Adult Guardianship Act; Health Care (Consent) and Care Facility (Admission) Act; Child, Family and Community Service Act; and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).
• Ability to work effectively with others in a multicultural environment, independently and as part of an inter-professional team, including understanding the frameworks of other disciplines.
• Ability to manage crisis situations and provide coordination to staff/student counsellors in the management of client crises.
• Strong planning, organizational and administrative skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage numerous tasks simultaneously.

• Must possess a valid BC class 5 Driver's license, have a reliable vehicle, business insurance and drivers abstract review (mileage paid for work use)
