Under the leadership of the Art Director/BG Supervisor, the 2D Layout Artist creates environment line work for the show that supports the overall creative vision for the story based on the determined style of the project.

In this role you will:

  • Complete line drawing of the backgrounds for scenes using approved assets when possible
  • Define the perspective and details of the backgrounds, accurately interpreting the Storyboards and camera direction
  • Work with the entire Layout team to ensure that backgrounds fit into the production as a whole and are in line with the Director's vision
  • Complete all line work within assigned deadlines and at the highest quality.
  • Creating layouts in the correct form, layered correctly with appropriate layout provided guides intact and ready for scene planning and animation.

Need to have:

  • A keen eye for aesthetic needs as well as diverse visual development styles as required by the project.
  • Strong knowledge of perspective and composition. Strong drawing, illustration/draftsman skills
  • Has a strong understanding of the needs of the show and the pipeline to allow the Designer to proactively anticipate issues and suggest solutions.
  • Proficiency using Photoshop is required. Familiarity with ToonBoom Harmony is a strong asset.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely.

Nice to have:

  • Degree and/or diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • 2-3+ years of experience working in a professional environment within their discipline.
