Senior O-Week Leader

Volunteer Position - Halifax, Nova Scotia

About the Dalhousie Student Union (DSU):

The DSU represents the collective voice of over 18,000 students in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The DSU advocates for student rights, builds community on campus through events, supports over 300 societies, and provides focused services to foster a supportive and positive student experience.

Responsibilities:

Senior O-Week leaders are responsible for the supervision of O-Week Leaders and facilitation of Orientation Week for incoming Dalhousie Students. Senior O-Week leaders will work directly with the Vice-President Student Life and the Events Commissioner to brainstorm ideas, training and coordinating volunteers, promote O-Week, and deliver programming. Senior O-Week leaders will receive anti-o framework, health and safety, harm reduction and naloxone, and events coordination training. Volunteer roles with the DSU can contribute to your Dalhousie Co-Curricular record. Orientation Week 2024 will occur primarily in-person. Leaders will receive an honoraria of up to $500.00, DSU swag, exclusive opportunities for future volunteer roles, and a letter confirming their outstanding volunteer contributions to the DSU.

Senior O-Week leaders should expect to meet Weekly for the month of July, and multiple times per week leading up to O-Week. Senior O-Week leaders are required to be available in Halifax starting July.

Approximately 15 volunteers are required.

Qualifications:

  • Must be available for in-person training and work in Halifax, Nova Scotia from July, 2024 to mid-September, 2024.
  • Must be a Dalhousie Student currently enrolled, with third year standing or higher for Fall 2024.
  • Previous experience with the DSU and/or O-Week leadership
  • Must be a team player.

Reporting structure: Reports directly to the DSU Vice President Student Life, and DSU Events Commissioner

Term: July 2nd - September 15th, 2024 with potential for additional opportunities over the course of the 2024-25 academic year
