Duties:

  • Acting as Course Manager and actively managing and co-ordinating the flying program and generally ensuring the successful execution, schedule compliance, student welfare and satisfaction for courses assigned by Head of Training from time to time;
  • Ensuring that students are correctly briefed and prepared for flying exercises;
  • Ensuring that risk assessments are completed;
  • Authorizing flights within his or her powers of authorization;
  • Ensuring that the students receive proper flight exercise demonstrations, and that students have the opportunity to practice flight test techniques and data-gathering techniques;
  • Ensuring that course flights are properly debriefed and that a Sortie Report Assessment is generated to monitor student progress;
  • Ensuring that students prepare and submit reports for exercises managed by the FTI as required by the syllabus and acting as first marker of such reports;
  • Monitoring the progress of individual students and briefing this on a regular basis to the appropriate Chief Flight Instructor (CFI) and Head of Training (HoT);
  • In the case of concerns about student progress, reporting to the CFI or HoT as soon as possible;
  • Performing duties as an experimental test pilot on company projects as required from time to time in Canada and occasionally abroad;
  • Any other special projects that he/she is qualified to perform and requested by his/her manager which may require travel abroad; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school and graduation from a certified flying or aviation school are required.
  • An Air Transport Pilot License (ATPL) or Commercial Pilot's License (CPL)
  • Transport Canada ratings and endorsements to provide instruction on different types of aircraft are required:
    • Instrument Rating (IR) Group 1 (all aeroplanes) is preferred and Flight Test Instructor (FTI)/ Type Rating Instructor (FTI) or equivalent International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) license and recognized TP qualification qualifications to qualify as a FTI.
    • A FTI may hold a Group 2 (multi-engine centre line thrust and single engine) only type rating: in these circumstances, instruction shall be limited to Category 2 courses only.
    • A FTI who holds a Transport Canada or validated ICAO license AND a recognized TP qualification qualification AND has undergone ITPS standardization may give instruction in flight test techniques to ITPS Students who are not seeking an EASA TP rating; in this case FCL.900 approval is not required.
  • Previous experience as a Test Pilot
  • 5+ years of experience in the military and/or civil industry.
  • Experience in spin testing is an asset.
  • Experience as an instructor at a test pilot school is an asset.
  • Meet the requirements of EASA ATP with CAT-1 Rating and be eligible for a Flight Test Instructor rating.
