As a Utility Operator II, you'll play a vital role in maintaining the reliability and functionality of our essential services and community infrastructure. Whether working independently or alongside our Utility team, staff, or contractors, your contributions are essential. Your expertise will be key, as you will be responsible for advising our Public Works Supervisor, Utilities Manager, or Civil Engineering Technologist on any operational issues, ensuring swift resolution and uninterrupted service to our community.

Your responsibilities will include overseeing the essential daily operation and maintenance of our water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This entails regularly monitoring and inspecting the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, diagnosing, and repairing utility system issues, and managing inventory to optimize efficiency, all while ensuring the reliability and safety of our systems.

To maintain optimal operational efficiency of the equipment within the community, you will service and maintain hydrants, conducting flushing, pressure testing and water quality checks. You will also perform CC and valve repairs as needed. You will conduct meter readings on a regular established schedule to accurately measure our residents water usage.

On-call duty will be required. In the event of water and/or sewer breaks, a quick response time will be crucial in minimizing the downtime of services to our residents, and overtime may be required if needed.

As a team member you will perform regular housekeeping duties at our reservoirs, pump houses, lift stations, and public workshop, ensuring these vital facilities remain clean and functional.

To excel as a Utility Operator II, candidates should possess the following:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must provide proof for Level II Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Certification (AWWOA).
  • Post-Secondary Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Water and Wastewater Operations preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of municipal water or wastewater facility experience. Ability to demonstrate an understanding of water and wastewater systems.
  • Experience in a computerized environment.
  • A solid foundation and knowledge of relevant legislation and safety standards.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Proof of immunization for Hepatitis B and Tetanus.
  • Satisfactory background screening, including Criminal Record Check.
  • Proof of a valid Class 5 Drivers License and drivers abstract is required. The ability to obtain a Class 3 with Q Endorsement is required within 6 months of hire.

Hourly Rate: $39.26 - $42.72 per hour
