Treatment Operations Assistant Manager – Full Time

Department: Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant

Reports To: Water and Wastewater Treatment Operations Manager

Location: Based out of Grande Prairie, AB

Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Operations Manager, the Treatment Operations Assistant Manager works with the treatment team to plan, coordinate, and direct the daily operations of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant, pumphouses, lagoons, and remote operations. The Treatment Operations Assistant Manager is responsible for the execution of activities performed by the team to ensure that work is performed in accordance to established processes and practices and is compliant with all internal and external requirements including but not limited to Environmental, Health, and Safety policies and codes. Work is reviewed through observation, progress, inspection, conference, and results obtained. Performs other work as required.

Job Duties:

  • Directs the Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant operations and maintenance teams including supporting in recruitment, retention, performance management, discipline, work scheduling, and ensuring employee engagement
  • Supervise personnel through visits to work sites and review of work performance
  • Oversees treatment operations and remote work sites ensuring environmental regulatory compliance
  • Oversees and directs training and competencies for operations/maintenance personnel including mentoring to develop independent, competent operations, and maintenance staff
  • Assists in the development and monitoring of expenditures for Operating and Capital improvement budgets
  • Supports in managing the operations and maintenance team to ensure ongoing preventive and corrective maintenance of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant(s) and Cogeneration Systems
  • Ensures that operations/maintenance teams execute daily activities according to operations plan and PM's and establishes work priorities
  • Inventories and orders materials and chemicals as needed for routine maintenance, operations, and specific jobs
  • Reviews reports, design drawings, as-builts, and contract specifications and provides comments and recommendations as and when needed
  • Assists in the overall Aquatera Health and Safety program administration
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Ability to supervise, lead, and mentor a team of individuals
  • Ability to effectively communicate oral and written instructions and generate accurate records and reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public
  • Ability to adhere to processes and practices relating to Treatment operations and maintenance and compliance with regulators
  • Possess a high level of environmental, health, and safety mindset
  • Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency
  • Effective communication skills for data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification
  • The ability to adapt to evolving situations and respond in a professional manner

Working Conditions

  • 40 hours per week
  • Both field and administrative-related work
  • Occasional travel for training, remote operations oversite, and conferences

  • A copy of a valid Canadian Driver's license (Non GDL)
  • Driver's abstract satisfactory to the Employer
  • A drug and alcohol test satisfactory to the Employer
