VP, Engineering

Coconut Software is looking for an experienced VP, Engineering to join our Leadership team. Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate has a demonstrated record of building high performing Engineering Teams, is able to roll up their sleeves to directly coach, and can work effectively with the Leadership Team in setting strategy. The role will lead the Engineering Team (40+ employees) and will be responsible for owning the Engineering Team's productivity and delivery strategy, while building a culture that's customer focused and delivers on commitments. The VP, Engineering will be passionate about automation, quality and building scalable processes, while ensuring engineering teams are aligned with the company's goals. You will have a willingness and desire to partner with the CTO and VP of Product to deliver meaningful solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the CEO, CTO, VP of Product and Executive Team on company vision and strategy
  • Modify, iterate, and own the overall Technical Roadmap for the organization
  • Lead company-wide execution and prioritization of improvements to code quality, systems, and engineering processes, establishing a culture of continuous improvement
  • Build a quality-oriented engineering culture that's customer focused and aligned to business goals
  • Manage the delivery of software using Agile best practices
  • Enable a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation, and excellence while continuously elevating the quality and caliber of the engineering organization
  • Share your knowledge of software engineering and code architecture fundamentals
  • Contribute to feature verification to gain understanding of the deeply technical product and to keep your technical acumen sharp
  • Evangelize the product vision internally and externally
  • Facilitate the development and management of modern engineering metrics
  • Lead the SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) process - build, develop, lead, coach and mentor an engineering team capable of carrying out initiatives that impact organizational and departmental goals
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, including data security and privacy requirements
  • Recruit, develop and inspire top engineering talent in alignment with Coconut's values
  • Cost management - understand business needs and manage the engineering department's budgets
  • Responsible for problem solving and be solution oriented

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience leading, managing and scaling Full Stack Engineering Teams
  • Experience working at and successfully leading Engineering Teams at high-growth and fast-paced technology companies
  • Extensive experience working at B2B software product companies (SaaS or similar)
  • Prior experience leading large software engineering teams - minimum of 40 people
  • You have experience leading remote teams and supporting/coaching both people managers (Managers, Directors, Team-Leads,) and individual contributors (indirectly or directly)
  • Ability to demonstrate strong leadership, coaching, mentoring, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with strong business acumen
  • Proven track record of successful technical project leadership and solving complex problems at global scale
  • Experience developing software engineering delivery strategy
  • Experience inspiring, elevating and leading high performance engineering teams
  • You are data oriented and have experience reporting on engineering team metrics (tracking velocity, delivery, team performance, etc.)
  • You have proficiency in change management methodologies, fostering a dynamic and adaptable work environment by effectively leading teams through organizational transitions and strategic initiatives
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with external stakeholders and senior executives
  • You have experience owning the entire engineering function and delivering on time and on budget
  • Experience with acquisitions and integrating teams and technologies is an asset, but not required
  • You have deep knowledge of and experience working on web technologies and enterprise-scale software architecture
  • You bring opinions and ideas on how to deliver value to customers, always operating with a customer-centric mindset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to adapt and be agile in changing environments
  • Ability to travel for work - up to 25%
