MacKay Contracting Ltd. is a progressive and well established Heavy Civil Construction and Mining Services Company. We operate throughout Western Canada on a wide variety of projects. The Welder is a vital position for MacKay Contracting Ltd. to ensure company vehicles, equipment and inventory have minimal down time. This role will work as part of the maintenance team to ensure a productive and efficient operation. The ideal candidate is to be a local resident.

Location & Hours:

This role will be based out of the Cranbrook headquarters yard located at 1600A Theatre Rd., Cranbrook B.C. and will have 40-50 hours per week, with a negotiable shift schedule (ie. 5 on/2 off; 4 on/4 off), and a start time of 6:00 a.m. This position is to be maintained from the headquarters location, however, regional travel to the jobsites will also occur. There may be occasion(s) where overtime will be required but is not expected to make up a major component of the role.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Reading and understanding blueprints, drawings, and measurements prior to starting a project
  • Sourcing the right materials to be used in projects
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Lifting and rigging
  • Measuring and cutting materials to specifications
  • Welding materials using the correct materials to join the metals together
  • Repair and maintenance of equipment cracks
  • Rebuilding
  • Operating equipment to put together metal parts or structures
  • Following all safety and health procedures to avoid accidents and hazards
  • Identifying issues and hazards
  • Daily submission of daily timecards
  • Daily submission of labour equipment materials report

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Red Seal ‘C' ticket or better with fabrication experience preferred
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a strong focus on safety
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents, safety rules, blueprints, manuals and documents referring to metallurgy
  • Deep knowledge of welding techniques
  • Excellent flexibility to work under pressure
  • Position requires a high level of initiative and a positive attitude
  • Must be able to give and follow both oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work alone or with others
  • Time management skills
  • Ability and fortitude to ask questions and share ideas
  • Ability to travel
  • Must possess a Class 5 Driver's Licence
  • Must provide own welding helmet and CSA-approved steel-toed boots with Met-guards
  • Must reside in the Cranbrook, B.C. area
