Bgco is seeking applications for the position of Infant Development Supervisor. This service is a home-based program designed to support families who are raising children from birth to three years old who are either at risk for developmental delay, or who have identified delays. A family-centered service is used to encourage positive parent child interactions and to facilitate the child's progress. In order to foster secure attachment and developmental accomplishment, parents are supported in recognizing their infant's cues and responding in ways that promote a sense of security in their infant.

Our program brings parents and professionals together to help children overcome developmental difficulties. The kind of support that we provide and the amount of time we spend with each family varies depending on the family's needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical

  • Assists the family in planning learning activities in the home and community which will encourage the growth and development of the infant.
  • Records home visits and ensures that parents and professionals involved with the family are sent bi-annual reports regarding the progress of the infant.
  • Encourages parents to take part in any decision-making process regarding the infant's education or health services.
  • Informs the family when appropriate of social and educational trends in service provision. Assists the family in understanding how this philosophy may be put into daily practices.
  • Provides appropriate resources to families which may assist them in understanding more about child development.
  • Lends age-appropriate toys and assists the family to help the infant use the toys in an explorative way.
  • Informs the family of educational, health and social services available to their infant as they grow older.
  • Ensures that the family is assisted in selecting an appropriate placement for preschool and that transition procedures between the Infant Development Program and preschool are in place.

Community Activities

  • Sets up parent education programs and/or encourages the development of community programs which will supplement the in-home education (e.g. lectures, workshops, counselling groups) and encourage families to attend on a regular basis.
  • Develop, with parents, group experiences for parents and infants, when and where appropriate (e.g. parent and tot groups).
  • Keep the community, including other professionals, informed of the progress and benefits of the Infant Development Program (e.g. Annual Report).

Supervision of Infant Development Counsellors

  • Provides an orientation to all new Infant Development staff.
  • Provides structured supervision of job-related activities and individual skill development to the infant development staff.
  • Provides a performance evaluation to each staff within required time lines.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Nursing, Child Care, Therapy, or related discipline or a combination of experience and education.
  • Certificate in Infant Development and Supported Child Development or willingness to enroll in the certificate course with the organization's support upon hire.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as an Infant Development Consultant or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license and reliable vehicle.
  • Complete the agency screening process, including a criminal record check

Rate of Pay: $40.32 per hour
