Directly reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Forklift Truck (FLT) mechanic is functionally responsible for maintaining the ALMAG fleet of forklifts. As a member of the Maintenance team, the forklift mechanic openly shares knowledge and information including training of teammates.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the Forklift Mechanic are detailed below, but not limited to the following:

  • Liaises with the operations teams on equipment capability, limitations and preventative measures to improve equipment reliability
  • Ensures the fleet is safe for use through inspection, repairs and vehicle history
  • Performs all necessary preventative maintenance including equipment assessment and safety checks
  • Troubleshoots forklift problems to include brake, electrical and hydraulic systems, detect imperfections, potential problems, safety issues and/or malfunctions
  • Completes all necessary documentation of vehicle repair history, inspections, record of repair and associated parts and material consumption
  • Identifies and orders non-inventory components
  • Maintains required Inventory of parts accuracy and orderliness
  • Openly shares knowledge and trains teammates on equipment functionality and history, procedures, and drawing mark ups

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • A High school diploma or a GED equivalent qualification
  • Experience with Combi-Lift material handling equipment (Preferred)
  • Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years' experience as a FLT Mechanic
  • A forklift operating license
  • Either Automotive Service Technician 310S license or Powered Lift Truck Technician 282E license (Preferred) or 310S
  • Ability to work on Natural Gas, Liquid Propane, gas and diesel systems
  • High energy level, good creativity, self-confidence, time management and must be a team player

Technical Skills/Competence

  • Strong understanding of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical theory, including DC power circuits, motor controls, and electronic control systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • A solid understanding of the following equipment/technology; hand tools, drill press, lathe, crane and lifting equipment, multicentre and electrical instruments, cut-off saw, welding machine, power tools, milling machine, torch and cutting equipment
  • Ability to work independently
