Are you the one we're looking for?

We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Food Service Worker who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness, and empowerment; to our clients, families, and each other.

The Food Services Worker works within a team and actively provides support to the kitchen. Including preparing and cooking food, and keeping a clean kitchen. Shifts are typically between the hours of 8 am – 5 pm and can include weekdays and weekends.

This position is a unionized, relief position. The rate of pay is $18.84 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare, serve, and/or package nutritious foods following all Wesley policies, Public Health guidelines, and Canada's Food Guide.
  2. Create a positive environment with co-workers in a team environment and offer good customer service for community partners, catering contracts, and clients.
  3. Responsible for ensuring a clean and safe working environment, by maintaining safe working habits and using correct hand-washing techniques.
  4. Practice safe usage of all equipment and help clean, sanitize, and maintain the equipment.
  5. Ensure that food comes out simultaneously in high quality and on time.
  6. Help monitor the inventory of received items and check and put away stock if needed.
  7. Assist with catered functions as needed.
  8. Participate in staff meetings and trainings.
  9. Perform any other task required for the smooth running of operations.
  10. Other duties as required.

What you will bring:

  1. High School Graduate or GED diploma or equivalent experience
  2. Minimum 1-3 years of operational experience in a high-volume kitchen.
  3. Graduate from a recognized cooking school such as Culinary Skills, Chef Training, First Start Food Service Training, or equivalent an asset
  4. Strong knowledge of best practices and all applicable standards and legislation related to the food industry.
  5. Must have the ability to work with marginalized persons.
  6. Excellent communication and documentation skills in English and a second language relevant to the community are an asset
  7. Ability to demonstrate patience, compassion, non-judgment
  8. Ability to work to deadline
  9. Ability to lift 50lbs
  10. To be able to stand for long periods
  11. Current Safe Food Handling required
  12. Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations.
  13. Flexibility to work early morning, evening, and weekends.
