Who We Are:

Radius is a rapidly growing company serving the tree, landscaping and forestry industries in B.C., Alberta, and the Yukon. We sell and service exclusive equipment that helps our customers reduce waste, minimize transportation, and increase the recyclability and compostability of a wide range of materials. Our vast expertise and continuous focus on delivering what customers need, want, and value has made us the leader in our industry. Our goal is to earn a “customer for life” - we aim for every interaction with Radius and our team members to be a great experience for the customer.

Radius has a culture where the input and ideas of every team member is welcomed and valued to help solve problems and improve how we do things. Our team members also value the balance of fun and performance in our workplace.

We invest in the development of our people and their capabilities. Our experienced group provides a high level of mentorship, coaching, and training in all key areas of business and operations leadership and management. Our mechanics will require periodic recertification in line with our engine and equipment manufacturers (including some paid travel to Europe).

Role Description and Mission:

Radius has an exciting path ahead and is currently growing at 30% year-over-year. We have recently moved to a larger location, and we are focusing on growing our Parts & Service business by adding more A Players and scaling our Parts & Service best practices.

Are you passionate about working with large, powerful machinery? Do you thrive in an environment where every day presents a new challenge? As a heavy-duty mechanic, you will have the opportunity to work on some of the most impressive vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are in optimal condition and ready to tackle demanding tasks. This is a dynamic and exciting role that requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a passion for mechanical excellence.

Other Key Activities and Responsibilities:

  1. Diagnose and Repair: Conduct thorough inspections, diagnose mechanical issues, and perform repairs on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment such as heavy-duty forestry and Arborist equipment, construction machinery, and agricultural equipment. This includes troubleshooting engines, wood chipper bodies, brakes, electrical systems, and other components.
  2. Preventive Maintenance: Execute scheduled maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and fluid checks. Conduct comprehensive preventive maintenance inspections to identify potential issues and address them before they become major problems.
  3. Emergency Repairs: Respond to emergency repair requests in a timely manner, ensuring minimal downtime for vehicles and equipment. Apply quick and effective solutions to get machinery back in operation.
  4. Welding and Fabrication: Utilize welding and fabrication skills to repair or modify components as needed. This may involve welding metals, fabricating custom parts, or reinforcing structures.
  5. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all services performed and parts used. Complete maintenance reports, service records, and other documentation as required.
  6. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and occupational health regulations while working on heavy-duty machinery. Ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and report any safety hazards or concerns promptly.
  7. Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with advancements in heavy-duty vehicle technology, industry best practices, and new repair techniques. Seek opportunities for professional development and training to enhance skills and knowledge.
  8. Teamwork and Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth operations and efficient repairs. Provide support and guidance to junior mechanics as needed.

Required Skills and Attributes:

  • Journeyman Heavy-Duty Mechanic certification or at least 8+ years of heavy-duty mechanic work experience.
  • Be a problem solver, not a part swapper. Our customers trust and expect us to get to the root of the problem and resolve issues that compromise their machine performance in a cost-effective and timely manner.
  • Be comfortable working in a process-oriented environment. We leverage our team's great knowledge and experience to define the ‘best' way to handle issues. Whether that is the way we conduct an initial assessment on a machine, how we communicate the parts list required, or how we handle customer issues. We all work in a common, effective way as a team to make sure we aren't dropping balls. When we find a gap, we solve it and continuously improve the way we all work together.

Compensation:

  • Hourly Wage: $40-$50/hour based on skills and experience
  • Quarterly Performance Bonus: up to 10% of total comp. based on team performance
  • Details: This position is fulltime. We offer flexible work hours within reason, provided that it is a fit for our customers and the rest of the team. We also appreciate flexibility back from the team when there are tight customer deadlines.

Please note: A final step in the hiring process is for candidates to arrange personal reference calls with former supervisors and others we may choose.
