What Are We Looking For?

Position Overview

Inn from the Cold is searching for a committed and experienced ReconciliACTION Lead to guide the implementation of our Okhannasi O'tap'sin, our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The ideal candidate will be passionate about driving systems change and will work collaboratively with internal teams, Indigenous Peoples, Elders and communities, and external partners to advance the organization's dedication to Truth and Reconciliation.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the implementation of the Reconciliation Action Plan, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and timelines.
  • Collaborate with consultants and internal stakeholders to integrate Reconciliation principles into daily operations.
  • Inform strategies to increase Indigenous representation, inclusion, and retention within the organization.
  • Review policies and practices to create a culturally safe environment and enhance access to programs for Indigenous families.
  • Develop an Indigenous engagement strategy and build relationships with Indigenous Peoples, Elders, communities, and organizations.
  • Cultivate relationships with Elders for guidance and establish a circle dedicated to supporting families.
  • Develop Indigenous awareness and intercultural training for staff and volunteers.
  • Facilitate internal training sessions to enhance understanding of Indigenous perspectives and experiences.
  • Collaborate with Data, Research, and Evaluation team for insights and progress reporting, and continuously review and update the plan based on feedback and learnings.

What You Bring to Our Mission

  • Indigenous candidates are strongly encouraged to apply, with preference given to qualified Indigenous applicants in alignment with the organization's commitment to promoting Indigenous representation and inclusion.
  • Combination of experience or education in Indigenous engagement, community development or change management.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures, ceremonies, histories, and issues required.
  • A strong network of contacts in the Indigenous community and experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations and Elders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience working directly with Indigenous families or individuals experiencing homelessness preferred, along with familiarity with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
  • Flexible working hours and access to a reliable vehicle for occasional travel within the Treaty 7 region.
  • Ability to apply the principles of Two-Eyed Seeing, understand and respect diverse worldviews, and effectively communicate across cultures.
  • Experience in leading and coordinating projects, ensuring timely and effective implementation of action plans.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous Peoples, Elders, communities, and organizations.
