Join the momentum. We are seeking a Manager for their growing Global Mobility team. Providing the highest level of excellence, our client is a leading national accounting, tax and business consulting firm in Canada. Their Tax team works with individuals and organizations in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors providing comprehensive strategies that minimize risk, meet tax compliance and reporting requirements, drive efficiencies and maximize returns. Specifically, their U.S. Personal Income Tax team helps high net worth individuals in Canada and the United States address their cross-border needs and optimize their overall taxes.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and planning engagements regarding Canadian and US tax considerations for High Net Worth clients. This includes personal, corporate, partnership and trust tax issues.
  • Deliver industry and technical expertise relating to Canadian and U.S. taxes, as well as social security and international tax treaties.
  • Write and present on such topics for internal and external audiences (including Wolters Kluwer, STEP and the Canadian Tax Foundation).
  • Manage project financials (budgets, WIP and billing).
  • Correspond with team members and clients in response to specific Canadian and U.S. tax queries.
  • Collaborate with client engagement team prior to commencement of client work to discuss roles and responsibilities, risk areas and deadlines.
  • Think strategically about client needs by understanding their business and key risks.
  • Identify ways to maximize the relationship with clients and deliver added value.
  • Review tax returns that reflect the complex planning you have done (this is a small portion of the workload).
  • Monitor project timelines against targets, adjust where necessary; advise clients of project status and seek clarification on discrepancies where applicable.
  • Leverage team appropriately to ensure proper documentation is prepared for the client and procedures relating to the file are followed accordingly.
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes.
  • Attend internal courses to further develop accounting and assurance knowledge.
Credentials:
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant work experience in public accounting and/or tax consulting
  • Knowledge of and experience working in Canadian and U.S. individual income tax, estate tax, and trusts
  • CPA or law degree. If you have not yet received a Masters degree in tax or the CPA Canada In-Depth tax course, then you would be expected to enrol in one
  • Solid understanding of business, accounting, management and practice development principles
  • Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Some travel may be required
