ROLE SUMMARY
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Construction Surveyor is the front-end service provider completing field surveys supporting a wide range of construction projects.
Hours of work are Monday to Friday – 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. with opportunities for overtime, travel and flexible shifts.
Travel to projects in the Edmonton area is required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES
  • Lead field surveying tasks and ensure they are completed in accordance with standard operating procedures, standard work instructions, safe work practices, and other site-specific safety policies.
  • Complete surveying measurements and tasks with a high attention to detail to obtain complete, precise, and accurate observations and records.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and assist with resolving errors and omissions in surveying data, drawings, and/or other technical information.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor Surveyor Assistants in the operation of survey related equipment, calculations, procedures, and methods.
  • Provide verbal and written progress updates on a regular basis to leaders, project managers, inspectors, consultants, and clients.
  • Communicate with leaders about time tracking, progress reporting, surveying issues, safety incidents, and hazardous conditions.

REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS
  • Two-year technical diploma in Geomatics or Civil Engineering with previous experience in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Capable of working independently and taking ownership of tasks with support from office staff.
  • 5+ years construction survey experience.
  • Physical ability to work on busy sites with varied terrain and ability to lift heavy equipment.
  • Works within tight deadlines and prioritizes work to achieve them.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience using Trimble Access and Trimble Business Center.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License with no more than 6 demerits.
  • Valid Transport Canada RPAS Pilot Certificate is an asset.
  • Terrestrial and Airborne LiDAR experience is an asset.
  • Valid CSTS, H2S Alive, WHIMS, First-Aid are assets.
  • The ability to travel up to 21 days a month is an asset.

KEY COMPETENCIES
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency in surveying techniques, equipment operation, and data analysis. This includes experience with tools such as Trimble Access and Trimble Business Center, as well as familiarity with terrestrial and airborne LiDAR systems.
  • Attention to Detail: The ability to perform surveying measurements with a high level of accuracy and precision, ensuring that all observations and records are complete and error-free.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: The capacity to lead field surveying tasks and supervise Surveyor Assistants effectively. This includes providing guidance, training, and mentoring to ensure the proper operation of survey equipment and adherence to established procedures.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for providing progress updates to various stakeholders, including leaders, project managers, inspectors, consultants, and clients.
  • Problem Solving and Adaptability: The ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve errors or issues in surveying data, drawings, or technical information. Additionally, the Construction Surveyor should be capable of working independently, prioritizing tasks, and adapting to changing conditions on construction sites, demonstrating resilience and flexibility.
