Junior Mechanical Engineer / Estimator

AWC Water Solutions Ltd. specializes in providing integrated water, wastewater treatment plants and many other specialized industrial packaged solutions. We offer clients advanced in-house engineering & design with 3D modeling, piloting, fabrication and machining, in-house control panel shop, and a full range of field services, allowing us to provide turn-key solutions.

We are seeking a junior level Mechanical Engineer to support the design and fabrication teams and who also brings professionalism and dedication to the work we do and the communities we serve.

The successful candidate will demonstrate some experience in selection and sizing of mechanical equipment for water and wastewater treatment systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform analysis to support the sizing of mechanical equipment to meet the Client specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Review engineering document and verify compliance of selected mechanical equipment to client specifications and industry standards and codes.
  • Work with the mechanical design and fabrication teams to verify equipment selection and sizing provided by the application engineering group.
  • Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings of mechanical components and assemblies using AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Inventor
  • Assist in the creation of prototypes and conduct testing to validate the design and make necessary adjustments.
  • Review of Fabrication Drawings, Assembly Drawings, Bills of Materials, General Arrangement Drawings, Equipment Layout, and supports the development of change orders, etc.
  • Assist project managers with client needs by taking part in client meetings or calls.
  • Evaluate and recommend cost-effective design options without compromising quality and performance.
  • Collaborate with internal departments (fabrication, sales, etc.) and external stakeholders (vendors, owners, owners' engineers, etc.) to achieve desired project outcomes.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and technologies through training and self-improvement initiatives.
  • Help in the continual improvement of AWC's Quality Management System's practices, procedures, templates, and checklists by participating in design reviews, feedback sessions, and process improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and efficiency.
  • Working towards P.Eng. registration in the province of BC or Alberta.
  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates and budgetary pricing for bid projects, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Collaborate with the sales team and applications engineers to define project requirements and scope.
  • Conduct a detailed review of client bid packages, project specifications, and drawing packages.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations to inform accurate cost assessments.
  • Create and maintain an estimating database to streamline the estimation process.
  • Contribute to the creation of proposal content, ensuring technical and commercial aspects are clearly presented.
  • Prepare and update a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors to support project needs.
  • Liaise with engineers, clients, subcontractors, and vendors to manage cost estimate adjustments and changes.
  • Develop comprehensive handover packages post-award, facilitating a smooth transition to the project execution team.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support the estimating and project quoting functions.

Requirements:

  • Post Secondary Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 0-4 years of work experience designing, sizing, and selecting mechanical equipment.
  • Strong communication and written skills
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, exposure to Autodesk products is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles utilized in the design of mechanical and piping systems is an asset.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.
