Atlas Industries (An AEP Company), located in Nanaimo, BC, provides professional design services, supplies engineered wood products, and manufactures roof and floor trusses to contractors, builders, and homeowners.

We are currently looking for a full-time, permanent, Design Team Member to support our operations. Reporting to the Production Manager, our ideal candidate will be flexible, adaptable, detail-oriented and motivated, with a focus on providing a high degree of external and internal customer service as we grow our team and business! The ideal candidate will be reliable, adaptable, and motivated, with a focus on achieving results and working as part of a great team!

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Read blueprints (Architecture, Structural and Mechanical).
• Apply knowledge of rough framing and the construction process to interpret customer needs and assist with problem solving.
• Demonstrate understanding of local building codes, national building codes, structural analysis, and structural engineering.
• Demonstrate expertise in the application of building components and connections of floor (I-Joist and LVL), and roof (truss) systems, tall walls, and other engineered wood products.
• Determine design specification based on blueprints and structural design needs.
• Produce floor and roof truss plans, floor and roof truss layouts, and floor and roof truss quotes using design software.
• Engage customers in proactive and productive conversation relating to the design of their floor and roof trusses.
• Review project designs to ensure that they are high quality, cost-effective, and precise. Act as the driving force behind accurate design releases to the Operations team(s).

Qualifications and Experiences

• Expertise in blueprint reading skills (architecture, structural, and mechanical).
• Experience and knowledge of rough framing and the construction process.
• Experience and knowledge of local and national building codes, structural analysis, and structural engineering.
• Expertise in the application of building components and connections of floor and roof systems.
• Expertise in the application of floor (I-Joist and LVL), roof and floor (truss) systems.
• Expert skills to design floor and roof trusses, I-Joist, LVL, and beams.
• Experience with Mitek is a must
• Strong problem-solving skills to resolve incomplete, ambiguous project requirements, errors or omissions within blueprints and/or task assignments
