KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum Implementation
- Work closely with Educators to implement program goals
- Support reflective practice and documentation
- Using the Childventures curriculum, facilitation of engaging activities that promote cognitive, physical, social and emotional development; including outdoor gross motor activities
- Participate in required curriculum training sessions and PD days building your knowledge of pedagogical practices
Child Development
- Observe and assess children's behaviour, progress and development
- Complete daily observations and maintain children's records
- Maintain an open and ongoing dialogue with families about their children's progression
Classroom Management
- Support the development of engaging, physically safe and emotionally supportive environment that is inclusive of all children
- Ensure a clear and organized and visually pleasing and inviting classroom monitoring and addressing any health & safety concerns
- Directly supervises children at all times.
- Communicates frequently with children throughout the day, naming objects, actions, using who, what, when, where and why, and open-ended questions
- Exhibits behaviour guidance consistent with CV philosophy.
- Treats each child with dignity and respect, recognizing the cultural diversity of the population.
- Responds to the individual needs and learning styles of children.
- Responds to children in distress promptly and appropriately.
- Ensures that family-style at meal times is implemented and sits with children; monitors children closely during meals.
- Follows CV documentation guidelines with the focus on the learning objectives in CV's curriculum
- Completes classroom attendance on an ongoing basis and uses role call sheets consistently; being aware of the number of children in your care at all times
Communication
- Ensure positive and supportive communication within the classroom
- Build strong relationships with the children and their families
- Establish open lines of communication with your Centre Director and fellow team members
- Communicates with parents daily, reporting on classroom and centre activities with a focus on the learning that has happened for each individual child
- Brings any parent feedback, concerns about children, etc. to the attention of the centre leadership team before discussing with the parent, and documents all such parent conversations.
- Respects the confidentiality of families
Administrative
- Interact with Ministry staff and other regulators around licensing requirements for inspection purposes
- Participate in the age-appropriate environment ratings scale annually
- Follows the Centre's Quality Assurance cycle when using program evaluation tools
- Must have knowledge of CCEYA requirements.
- Conduct daily health check of children; record illness and inform centre leadership; contact parents as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- RECE Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Previous experience as an Early Childhood Educator working in a licensed childcare environment
- Passionate about early learning and care, emergent curriculum, and life-long learning
- Team-oriented
- Reliable and supportive team member
