Kamloops Immigrant Services (KIS) is a non-profit organization that serves the needs of immigrants, migrants, and newcomers in Kamloops and the district. Our primary goal is to assist them in building a better future and feeling at home in their new community. We offer free programs and services to help them overcome the challenges of adapting to a new country.

About the position

Immigrants are key in driving our local and regional economic development. As Employer Advisor, your role is to establish and cultivate strong connections with local and regional employers. While working with the Employment team you will assist newcomers in securing meaningful employment by bridging the gap between immigrants and business owners while also identifying potential job opportunities for clients. Additionally, you will serve as a liaison to ensure that newcomers' unique skills and experiences are duly recognized and valued in the workplace.
Your responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an employer engagement strategy to link clients to employment chances and further substantive education in the community.
  • Communicate with employers to understand their workforce needs and work with them through aiding in recruiting and retaining newcomer talents with relevant skills.
  • Assist employers by providing additional training and mentorship tools, job shadowing opportunities, and cultural understanding support through workplace cultural awareness and diversity resources.
  • Conduct job matching to connect employers with suitable potential candidates effectively.
  • Connect employers to the program through engagement activities, such as guest speaker opportunities, informational interviews, job fairs, developing job shadowing and work experience opportunities for clients, workplace orientation tours and pre-screening process with clients for sustainable employment.
  • Team up with the Employment Counsellors to provide information regarding employment opportunities.
  • Conduct pre-hiring and post-hiring follow-ups with the employers to support them with new hires.
  • Work with the settlement team to understand clients' evolving needs in working towards clients' employment goals that align with their skills and experience.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining the Employer Newsletter, the communication channel that sustains the connection between clients and employers.
  • Outsource and liaise with employers, employment programs, and information resources to collaborate on funding applications and proposal writing.
  • Play a key role in KIS employment program expansion and sustainability.
  • Represent KIS with the Chamber of Commerce, Business Associations, and entrepreneur support organizations such as Community Futures, Venture Kamloops, and Kamloops Innovation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Organization:

  • Bachelor's degree in communication and marketing or 2-year Diploma in a related discipline combined with relevant work experience, or a combination of education and work experience, a similar field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Canada in a similar role, preferably in employment services, human resources, or workforce development.

  • Effective natural relationship builder with a track record of establishing strong working relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
  • Self-starter, ideas generator, results-based, energetic, and driven to ensure the success of others.
  • Passionate about working with clients with diverse cultural backgrounds and understanding the barriers they may face in the labour market.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and positive attitude towards change.
  • Demonstrated ability to use social media (LinkedIn, Twitter) for networking, professional branding, and program marketing.
  • Ability to facilitate workshops for small and medium-sized groups.
  • Comfortable leading a program as part of a small team to drive program outcomes.
  • Know about current labour market trends, employment programs, employment opportunities and social services in the Thompson-Nicola Region and Kamloops community.
  • Strong grasp of the WorkBC policies and guidelines.
  • Possess Permanent Resident Status or Canadian Citizenship.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage stressful conditions effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative team player, able to communicate effectively across cultures.
  • Ability to manage self-care and resources effectively, prioritizing personal well-being and professional responsibilities.

Additional Requirements:

  • Possess a valid Canadian driver's license and a reliable vehicle (required).
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and MS Word.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services.
  • Clear provincial criminal record check.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends.
