RCC is looking for a Specialist, Web to work out of our Toronto Head Office, reporting to the Director, Marketing Technology & Content.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Specialist, Web is responsible for the overall website content management and optimization of RetailCouncil.org and CommerceDetail.org. The Specialist, Web will also be responsible for monitoring site usage in terms of traffic flow and search engine positioning.

This person will work within RCC's Marketing and Communications team as a cross-team content champion, liaising with Government Relations, Membership, Events, and Sponsorship teams, to ensure RCC's websites and online channels are the “go to” for members, retail influencers and media looking for timely, relevant content on issues affecting the retail sector.

We are seeking someone who will also play a role in the ongoing development and publishing of online content in a variety of forms, including, but not limited to websites, newsletters, social media, and emails. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, highly organized, can work easily with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including designers, web development partner agencies, and technology platform vendors.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of RetailCouncil.org/CommerceDetail.org using our content management systems (CMS) to create pages, build/edit content, and look at best practices for web.
  • Evaluate and execute web updates (e.g., design new page layouts, write and post copy, edit video).
  • Manage content needs so that both time sensitive issues and core themes can be effectively communicated throughout the year on RetailCouncil.org.
  • Facilitate web requests through the development of site architecture, user flows, wireframes, mock-ups and QA testing.
  • Oversee Google Analytics environment and suite of tools, regularly tracking and reporting on analytics to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
  • Manage regular website maintenance with digital agency to ensure functionality and make recommendations to improve SEO performance and/or AODA compliance.
  • Work with IT team to ensure integration to database via web portal and email application.
  • Manage creative asset preparation as required for website updates as well as other email marketing and collateral support.
  • Provide other support to Marketing and Communications team as required.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably in Digital Marketing, Web Development, Communications or other related discipline.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • Strong proficiency with WordPress, including experience with Gutenburg, Elementor or other WordPress page builders and templates.
  • Excellent grasp of HTML and CSS.
  • Strong knowledge of SEO best practices and tools.
  • Proficiency with GA4/Google Analytics or other web analytics experience.
  • Excellent editing, proofreading, copywriting skills.
  • Understanding of social media and how it integrates with the web.
  • Experience with PhotoShop/Adobe Suite/Canva/Mid Journey.
  • Knowledge of video editing programs.
  • Experience working with Hubspot, or other email creation tools.
  • Self-motivated and able to independently develop solutions to open-ended problems.
  • Ability to multi-task with high volume output; results oriented.
  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Openness to work after hours when required.
