In this role, you will be responsible for designing mechanical systems for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. You will support project activities from start to finish, assist senior staff with production, and deliver safe, cost-effective, and energy-saving solutions to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design of building-related mechanical systems including HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems across Canada using applicable codes, standards, and reference materials.
  • Prepare contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction.
  • Produce aspects of mechanical design and drawings in REVIT MEP, as well as in AutoCAD.
  • Generate energy models and help with the preparation of energy modelling reports and compliance documentation.
  • Facilitate and ensure the quality of the project deliverables.
  • Adhere to The Krahn Group of Companies' design standards in preparing drawings and specifications and following the design requirements established for each project.
  • Review shop drawings and other contractor submittals for compliance with construction documents.
  • Perform field surveys for drawing developments, site reviews and recorded drawings.
  • Communicate with other team members and become familiar with completing assignments and projects in a timely manner as required by the Project Manager, Discipline Lead or Supervisor.

Minimum Education

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 0-4 years of relevant experience.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to read Architectural, Structural, Electrical and Civil drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Solid understanding of building science, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and airflow fundamentals.
  • Solid knowledge of NFPA, NECB and ASHRAE standards, local building code and plumbing code.
  • Operating knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD is required.
  • Working knowledge of cooling calculation programs such as HAP or Trace700 is required.
  • Experience in energy modelling and load calculation programs such as EE4, ComCheck, HAP, HOT2000, eQuest, Design Builder, Open Studio, Energy Plus, and/or PHPP is an asset.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English.
