General Manager

NUQO Modular is a female-led Indigenous business at the forefront of the modular construction industry. We are forging paths in co-creating innovative, resilient housing and childcare solutions with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.

We are looking for a General Manager to steer our ambitious projects. The role promises a stimulating and forward-thinking work environment where you will spearhead leadership and support across our vast portfolio, encompassing planning, execution, and assessment of initiatives nationwide.

Primary Responsibilities:

Day-to-Day Business Operations: Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day construction operations from business development to project execution. Your expertise will be invaluable in defining and implementing construction strategies, methodologies, and best practices that optimize project outcomes. Provide the Senior Leadership team with regular updates on all silos of operations.

Strategic Construction Planning:

Collaborate with the CEO and advisory board to craft and implement strategic construction plans aligned with NUQO's overarching goals. Your role involves identifying growth opportunities and ensuring operational efficiency. Your strategic insight will be pivotal in steering the company towards sustainable innovation and market leadership.

Team Building and Leadership:

As a leader, you'll foster a culture of collaboration, nurturing an innovative and high-performing team. Your role emphasizes mentorship, transparent leadership, and empowerment, ensuring a cohesive and engaged workforce.

Construction Expertise:

Leverage your deep knowledge in construction to oversee project planning and execution, ensuring quality and efficiency. Stay at the forefront of industry trends and technologies, driving innovation and sustainable practices.

People-First Approach:

Champion a workplace culture that prioritizes diversity, inclusivity, and well-being. Implement policies and practices that support employee growth, safety, and work-life balance, reinforcing NUQO's commitment to its people.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Management:

Your ability to foster trust, collaboration, and partnership will be instrumental in ensuring successful project outcomes. Engaging and collaborating with various stakeholders, including subcontractors, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and local authorities, will facilitate effective communication and coordination to drive project success.

Construction Quality and Safety:

Establish, maintain and monitor Quality and Safety programs that adhere to codes, regulations, and industry best practices. By implementing robust safety programs and initiatives, you will maintain a safe working environment for all construction activities. By driving a culture of quality and safety throughout the organization, you will promote continuous improvement in construction practices.

Budget Management and Cost Control:

Effective budget management and cost control are crucial to project success. You will oversee construction project budgets, ensuring accurate cost estimation, tracking, and monitoring throughout the project lifecycle. Reviewing and approving cost estimates, change orders, and project financials, you will align them with project objectives and financial targets. Collaborating with the finance team, you will analyze project cost profitability and implement cost-saving measures.

Business Development and Growth:

Overseeing the Business Development function, you will identify and pursue new opportunities for growth and expansion. By fostering relationships with clients, partners, and industry stakeholders, you will promote NUQO's capabilities and value proposition. You will drive the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to expand NUQO's market presence and maximize business growth.

Human Resources Management:

Overseeing the HR function, you will ensure the acquisition, development, and retention of top talent. Providing leadership and guidance on HR policies, procedures, and practices, you will foster a high-performance and inclusive culture. By promoting professional growth and development opportunities, you will actively contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization.

Qualifications:

To thrive in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in construction. Experience with modular construction is a significant asset but not a mandatory requirement.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, particularly in the construction industry.
  • Strong focus on team building and leadership, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Expert knowledge in construction methodologies and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to align team efforts with company goals, emphasizing a people-first culture.
  • A proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex construction projects
    including multi-family residential builds.
  • A strong understanding of construction methodologies, techniques, codes, and regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, control costs, and drive operational efficiency.
  • Experience in leading support functions such as Cost, Estimating, Business Development, and HR.
  • A solid commitment to safety, quality, and sustainability in construction practices.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and a deep appreciation for Indigenous cultures and customs
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.

Expected Salary

  • $200,000 + - Salary dependent on experience
